Some potential problems in Production System

1. Inadequate cementation during placement or
its subsequent removal, can lead to casing
corrosion.
2. Inadequate formation strength can lead to:
a. Initial loss in productivity
b. Inability to conduct effective wireline
operations
c. Erosion and failure of downhole or surface
equipment

The Sources of Well Problems

The most frequent occurrence of well problems are grouped:
1. The reservoir
2. The wellbore
3. The completion

1. Reservoir Associated Problems

Reservoir are initially developed with limited data
Reservoir exhibit a dynamic response to production and injection
Production equipment has finite working life

a. Productivity / Infectivity Problems

It relate to the optimum utilization of reservoir pressure.
Four major problem categories:
1. Inefficient productivity/injectivity due to perforations
- Shor phasing i.e. angular orientation
- Shot density i.e. number of perforation
- Diameter nad legnth of perforation
- Perforation damage
2. Limitations on reservoir performance
- Reservoir pressure
- Reservoir size (maintain pressure)
- Reservoir permeability
- Formation damage
It can be Natural and Induced Limitation on Reservoir Performance

However, temporary abandonment may be necessary because:
a. The actual problem cannot be defined with reasonable certainty.
b. The capability to conduct the workover may not available, due to:
- Equipment
- More urgent alternative
- Economically better justified alternative.
