Have you ever wanted to work abroad and believe you are ready for the challenge? Well,
before you apply for the job and pack your bags there are many things for you to consider to
help you be successful in your journey. This workshop will explore the undisclosed realities
of working abroad on an international assignment as a American Latina. Rosalee will share
her experiences of having provided product support for Caterpillar products worldwide for
over 6 years and having lived abroad directly on a mine site in the heart of mining country,
Antofagasta, Chile. Her experience in product support has provided an exciting career that
required both technical savviness & emotional intelligence, where the employee has to learn
to adapt to the local business culture in order to be successful. This workshop will focus on
other factors in addition to the technical skills needed by an engineer, to successfully
navigate through the ever changing global work environment and be successful on your
international assignment & travels outside the US. It will discuss:
critical role that diversity plays in product support,
benefits of communicating in the native language,
awareness of the local business culture,
awareness of the work group hierarchy,
utilizing your differences to make an impact in the business,
and how diversity helps challenge the group think process that many times plagues our
businesses.
Stop in to learn how this critical first step is crucial to achieving successful
outcomes, both in the workplace and in your personal life. Following the workshop,
you will have the opportunity to engage in an open and interactive Q&A on several
other professional development topics of your choice.

degrees and majors offer full financial assistance and the differences between
graduate research assistantships (GRAs), teaching assistantships (TAs),
fellowships and scholarships. It will focus on Fellowships and training grants that

corporations, and universities. Some fellowships cover all expenses but it is not
unusual for scholarships to only be topping grants. GRAs and TAs come directly

from the university and/or research group that you will be joining and they normally
include a stipend and tuition. The graduate students (2-3) participating in the panel
will also share their experiences in applying for Fellowships and provide tips on how
to make a competitive application. The presentation will also include tips on how to
find the right advisor. Further discussion will be done during the panel section of the
workshop where students will hear from their peers as well as from faculty about
this topic.

Dr. Martha Cantu, Vice President of Student Affairs at the University of Texas Pan
American, has been invited to talk about different ways to keep involved with
student organizations. The focus of the workshop is to motivate professors and
inspire them to find some extra time to dedicate to their chapters. We are
convinced that the support and guidance are essential for the success of any
student organization.

Some of these individuals will become your mentor while another will
become your sponsor. However, many people wonder what the difference is
between a mentor and a sponsor arent they the same? Do you need one
over another? When do you need a mentor and when do you need a
sponsor? In this session, we will explore the differences and similarities
between mentors and sponsors, how to find one and determine when/if you
should have a mentor and a sponsor.

The ability to express and control our own emotions is important, but so is
our ability to understand, interpret, and respond to the emotions of others.
Learn how you can boost your emotional intelligence to help build stronger
relationships, succeed at work, and achieve your career and personal goals. Emmanuel Rivera
Four years ago, 40mpg was the new 30. Now 50 is the new 40, with 60mpg
just around the corner. Customer expectations for fuel economy are now
set by the city/highway label delta. While this difference exists in testing and
on road for conventional vehicles, HEV's may not have this difference in
testing but on road variation remains.
Incremental refinement of Hybrid Electric Vehicle components and controls
and further increases in engine efficiency are paramount to achieving
additional FE gains. Other challenges include reducing losses during cold
operation and the trade-off between fuel consumption and climate
performance under all ambient conditions.

The NASA Pathways IEP is for current students and individuals accepted for
enrollment in a qualifying educational program. The NASA Pathways IEP
provides students enrolled in a variety of educational institutions with paid
opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in
school. This program exposes students to jobs in the Federal civil service by
providing meaningful development work at the beginning of their career,
before their career paths are fully established.

This additive manufacturing track will host a group of people across the design,
molding, manufacturing, and research sectors addressing the key issues facing the
development of effective, efficient, and sustainable technologies and processes
across disciplines and industries such as medical, consumer goods, and
automotive among others. Additionally, this symposium aims to provide a forum
where scientists and technologists working on transparent, flexible, and large area
electronics can meet. It is intended to cover both organic and inorganic materials
and devices targeting transparent, flexible, and large-area applications. Materials
preparation, characterization, and modeling along with device fabrication and
testing will be included. Devices of interest include thin film transistors of both
organic and inorganic semiconductors (n-type or p-type), memory devices, sensors,
and functional devices. Applications that may be appropriate for this symposium
include various display types, large-area sensors, functional devices, RFID tags,
smart medical sensors, and fabric and paper-based devices. Recent advances in
transparent electrodes and transparent semiconductors as they relate to TFT,
memory, and senor technologies are to be covered. Large area processing
methods such as ink-jet processing, spray pyrolysis, solution deposition, and roll-toroll processing are relevant to this symposium. Furthermore advanced

improvement is new, non-obvious and useful by comparing their discoveries with
the "prior art", i.e. patents, published patent applications and other published
material. Particular emphasis will be placed on the classification schedule and how
to use it in combination with word searches. Additional tips will be provided in how
to make the best use of all the tools available on the PTO web-site. The

This workshop will discuss the uses of new and different academic support tools
that could be made available for SHPE Student Members. Once again as
technology moves forward new inventions are being developed to aid the academic Dr. Martha Cantu
success understaff and graduate students. Practices and tools that advise students
on the go have made a difference in the academic careers of many. An example of
these would be "Guaranteed 4.0", a learning system that has aided thousands of
