. MAY 8th:
TO THE PARENTS
In their preparation for First Holy Communion, the children are learning
the significance of the Mass as a celebration of God's gift and as a
reenactment of the Last Supper. Here are some suggestions that might help
to prepare your child for his or her part in Mass.
1.
Sometime during the week, if possible, visit the church. Point out
those things your child might miss while Mass is going on: the tabernacle,
the vigil candle, the Stations, and so forth. Explain their significance.
2.
Purchase a picture missal at your local Catholic bookstore. Go
through the book with your child and identify the different sections of the
Mass.
3.
Before Mass, read and discuss the gospel and other readings with your
child. Help him or her to identify with the message.
4.
Arrive at Mass early! Sit as close to the sanctuary as possible.
Nothing turns a child off faster than to be sitting where he or she can see
nothing but the backs of people's heads.
5.
Set an example of the spiritual attitude necessary for being a part of
the Mass by your own prayerful attention. Join heartily in the prayer
response and signing. Encourage your child to do the same.
6.
Encourage your child to follow the Mass in the picture missal or, if
your child's reading ability is advanced enough and if your parish provides
them, a missalette.
7.
On the way horne from Mass, discuss the gospel message once more.
Think of ways you can fit this message into your lives this week.
1.
Son of God Mary, is His mother gave the Holy Eucharist at the
Last Supper The Last Supper was the first mass Jesus died on the
cross for us to save us He rose fr'om the dead, which we celebrate at
Easter Jesus is now in heaven with the Father, and He sends the Holy
Spirit to help us.
2.
KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMMUNION AND ORDINARY BREAD AND WINE:
When mass begins, the bread and wine are not Jesus They become Jesus
at the Consecration when the priest says the words of Jesus:
"This is
my Body" and "This is my Blood" The bread and wine do not seem
different - they still look and taste the same, but they really are
Jesus This is a mystery and a miracle which we believe because tells
us to believe.
3.
RECEIVING JESUS:
When receiving the Host in your hand, hold out your hands, palms up,
with the hand you use under the other. When you the priest says,
"Body of Christ", you answer "Amen". The host is put in your top hand
and with , the underneath hand, put the host in your mouth and eat it
normally.

OUR.. LADY OF THE LAKES
EUCHARIST IS
The Eucharist Is About BELONGING. The gathering of Christians
around the table of their Lord presupposes a unity, a community,
already existing.
The Eucharist Is About CELEBRATING. The Eucharist is a gathering
of Christians who wish to express with one voice who we are and
who we are called to be.
The opening procession, the prayers, and
the songs of this gathering serve to draw us together in Jesus
Christ, who is the cause of our unity and the origin of our life.
The Eucharist Is About MAKING PEACE. The Eucharist requires of
us that we have the will to reconcile - that we strongly desire to
achieve. the being-at-one that must accompany true peace.
The Eucharist Is About LISTENING.
In this gathering God expresses
His love for us through His word, which places His ultimate gesture
of life-giving love in its proper context so that we can appreciate
it more fully.
Christ is present and experienced in His word.
The Eucharist Is About CARING. We respond to God's love and concerns
for us by voicing our concern for others.
In the prayer of the
Faithful, we are moved by His love for us to express our love for
one another.
The Eucharist Is About GIVING THANKS FOR CREATION.
In the preparation of the gifts and in the Eucharistic Prayer, we give thanks for
all gifts God has given USi for the world and the people in it, for
the many signs of God's love that surround us.
The Eucharists Is About GIVING THANKS FOR NEW LIFE. We give thanks
most of all for God's love for us, manifested to us in His Son, and
for our own life through Christ's death and resurrection.
The Eucharist Is About SHARING A MEAL. Together we share in bread
and wine, the elements of God's creation, for which we have already
acknowledged our gratitude.
In sharing this food and drink in the
Communion Rite, we share in the self-giving of Christ and are
nourished by His life-giving power to create unity.
The Eucharist Is About GOING FORTH TO MAKE A BETTER WORLD. Fortified
by Christ's presence to us in the world, in the bread, and in each
other and sustained by His love, we go forth to share His life, to
respond to His love, to build a world in which there will be no more
evil and death.

Once again we will be covering your First Holy Communion Masses at
Our Lady of the Lakes Church each child will be photographed as he/she
goes to the altar to receive Communion. Before and after the Masses, we
will also be doing portraits in the Parish Center, of both the child
and/or family.
In order to make it easier on the day of the Communion,
we will be setting up STUDIO PORTRAITS SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THE DAY OF
COMMUNION.
We will be in the Parish Center doing studio portraits that will include
special effects. Parents must accompany child for portraits. These
special effects will not be done on the Day of Communion. There will be a
small refundable deposit of $10.00 to insure that you come and view the
photos.
There is no obligation to purchase, however, you may purchase any
photo in any size that you desire. Framing is also available.
Your child is welcome to come to either session regardless of the day your
child is receiving communion.
Photos will be done on a first-come, firstserve basis.
If you are unable to make any of the Pre-Communion dates, you make a private
appointment for a time that is convenient for you and your child.
