Basic Operation
TheEmeraldICEFlashVoiceMailSystem,initsdefaultconfiguration,isaneightport
systemwiththreehoursofvoicestoragethatcanprocesseightdifferentcallersatthe
sametime.Anadditionalthreehoursofrecordingtimecanbeaddedwiththe
additionoftheoptionallyavailableexpansionmodule.Thecallerscanbeany
combinationofoutsideorinsidecallers.Aseachcallerfinishestheircall,theportis
madeavailableforthenextcallerallowingalargenumberofuserscanbesupported
withtheEmeraldICEFlashVoiceMailSystem.
TheEmeraldICEFlashVoiceMailSystemusesSingleDigitCommands,eliminating
theneedtomemorizelongkeysequences.Oncetheuserisfamiliarwiththe
system,theywillbeabletodialaheadbyknowingthecorrectcommands.

Theproductwarrantyislimitedtoreplacementofdefectivecomponentsanddoes

thecustomerprovidedequipmentmaycauseharmtothetelephonenetwork,the

Programming
Theremaybeoccasionswhereitwillbedesirableornecessarytocallintothe
EmeraldICEFlash VoiceMailfromaremotelocation.Thisiseasilyaccomplishedby
attachinganexternalmodemtotheprogrammingport.
Youmustuseastraightcabletoprogramthemodem,however,youmustuseanull
modemcableforconnectionwiththeEmeraldICEFlashVoiceMailCard.

ThemodemthatistobeusedforprogrammingREQUIRESaveryspecificsetof
instructionstobesenttoandstoredwithinit.Ifthesecommandsarenot
programmed,themodemwillanswerhowever,youWILLNOTbeabletoseeand
accesstheEmeraldICEFlashVoiceMailscreens.Youwillneedtoconnectthemodem
toaPCtoprogramit.Anystandardcommunicationspackagewillbeabletoperform
thisprogramming.Oncetheprogramminghasbeencompleted,themodemwill
havethesespecialcommandsstoredasthedefaultconfiguration.Themodemwill
thenonlybeabletobeusedwithFlashVoiceMailunlessitisresettofactory
settings.

1. ConnectthemodemtothePCyouwillbeusingforthesetupprocedure.

3. Startyourcommunicationsprogram,makingsuretousethecorrectport

Using the Modem for Remote Programming
InordertoremotelyprogramaEmeraldICEFlashVoiceMailsystem,youmustfirst
connectthemodemtotheVoiceMailcardasfollows:
1. Connectthenullmodemcabletothemodem.
2. ConnectthenullmodemsopenendtotheprogrammingDCEserialport1onthe
FlashVoiceMailcard.
3. ConnectaCOlinetothemodemslinejack.Itisrecommendedtoalwaysconnect
aCOtrunkfortworeasons.
a. Youwillusuallyconnectatahigherspeed,whichmakestheremote
screensrunfaster.
b. IftheFlashVoiceMailisnotrunning,youwillnotbeabletoaccessthe
modembytransferringthroughtheAutomatedAttendant.
4. Powerupthemodem.
YoumaynowcallthetelephonenumberforthemodemandconnecttotheFlash
VoiceMailsystem.
TodisconnectfromtheFlashVoiceMail,simplycloseProcommorHyperterminal.
YoucanthendisconnectfromPCprogramming.
Afterthehandshakeandconnection,presstheESC+ENTER keystoloadtheFlash
VoiceMailscreens.Allprogrammingfunctionsareavailableforyouruse.System
programmingkeysarethesameasalocalterminal.

Restoring the Modem to Factory Default Settings
Ifforsomereasonitbecomesnecessarytoreturnthemodemtoitsoriginalfactory
defaultsettings,followthesesteps.
ThestepsapplytobothaUSRoboticsCompatibleModemandaHayesCompatible
Modem.
1. ConnectthemodemtothePCusingastraightcableandpoweritup.
2. Startthecommunicationssoftware,makingsuretousethecorrectport
assignment(COM1:COM2:etc.).
3. TypeAT&F0andpressENTER(youwillnotseeanythingasyoutypeyet).You
shouldseeanOKresponseonthescreenandnowyourtypedcommandswill
showinthefollowingsteps.
4. TypeAT&W0andpressENTER.Thisstoresthefactorydefaultsettingbackinto
themodemasProfile0.
5. TypeAT&Y0andpressENTER.ThissignalsthemodemtoloadProfile0andthe
factorysettingseverytimethemodemispoweredup.
Themodemhasnowbeenresettooutoftheboxcondition.

ThefollowingproceduresillustratedinFigure23describetheprocessofupgrading
thesoftwareontheEmeraldICEFlashVoiceMailcard.
Beforebeginningtheprocedures,itissuggestedthattheProcommcommunication
programneedsbeconfiguredtoacceptASCIIastheCurrentTransferProtocol.
SelectOptions>DataOptions>TransferProtocol.SettheCurrentTransfer
ProtocoltoASCII.
Proceedwiththefollowing:

In Procomm: Select Data-->Send File
Select
the upgrade file from diskette or local drive. As soon as the file
is clicked, the file transfer will begin.
Message "Recording Flshpromaddr" displayed as file is being

transferred. Percentage of completion will be displayed.
After transfer is 100% complete there will be NO PROMPT. At the

command line type Y for Yes and then + R to begin recording the
upgrade to the chips on the Flash Voicemail card.
