Notes issues and solutions

1. Reconfiguring notes using notes.ini file


1. Open notes.ini file in notes folder-delete all contents after InstallType=6
2. Click on notes icon on desktop and enter the user short ID and server
3. Select ID file in data folder
4. Enter password-next-finish-notes setup is complete.
2. Notes is very slow
1. Rename cache.ndk and log.nsf files in data folder and reconfigure notes

2. Replace cache.ndk from other working system where notes is faster.

Replicate on the file, replication menu to initialize it.
Database is not properly compacted. Decrypt and encrypt using encryption
tool. If not able to Decrypt and encrypt and getting error RRV bucket
corrupted, then the database is corrupted.
17. Getting the below error while reconfiguring lotus notes.

Try configuring the ID file in a different systemstems. If Problem persists,


then its a problem with the ID file. ID file will be locked or password
needs to be reset. Need to contact the server team to unlock the ID file.

problem with the users delegation for the generic ID.
21. Mail in Inbox appears as a blank entry
Click on the Tools menu button, click Preferences.
Click the Message Marking tab, and click Restore default Mail colors.
Click OK.
22. Attachments from external email are received only as a
Winmail.dat file
Attachments from an external e-mail address are received only as a
Winmail.dat file.
Resolution: When receiving a message sent in Microsoft Outlook RTF
format, it will be received in normal message text along with an attached
file named "winmail.dat". This file not a Word rich text file and you
cannot use Word to read it - it is a format MicroSoft calls "TNEF".
The winmail.dat file contains a formatted version of the message (which
this program ignores) and any attached files. WMDecode will scan the
selected winmail.dat file for attachments and save them individually,
defaulting to the original (long) filename.

Another resolution is to ask the sender to resend the file using the correct
format.
Cause: Message was sent in Microsoft Outlook RTF format.
23. Notes keeps crashing when using the Address Assistant
Lotus Notes is stalling, running slow or looking at the incorrect server
when sending mail. I also get an error when sending mail from server copy
"unable to find path to server", even though I can send successfully when
replicating. This error can occur when using the Location Document Island
and the Notes.ini has been modified to look up specific address books on a
server.
Follow the solution outline below:
Check the User Preferences.
Click on File > Preferences > User Preferences.
Select the Mail tab.
Remove any Server listings from the Local address books
field and click OK.

Problem with user profile. Create new user profile with administrator rights

28. Unable to open any mails, getting error File cannot be created
1. Reconfiguring notes will resolve this issue
29. Viewing hidden files in Lotus Notes
1. Press Shift+Ctrl and double click and open the database and go to view
Hidden files will be listed with $ symbol.

Solution: Problem:

When launching Lotus Notes or trying to send mail, the following error is received "File not found or file does not
exist."
Cause:
It is possible that the problem is caused by corruption in the outgoing mail database (mail.box).
Resolution:
1. Close Lotus Notes.
2. Search for the mail.box file on the system (it should be located in the C:\Notes\data folder).
3. Delete the existing mail.box file, or move it to a location outside the Notes folder for backup.
Note:
Any outgoing mail held in the outgoing mail database at this time (i.e. sent, but not replicated) will not be sent.
The original mail, if saved, is still present in the mail database and may be resent when the problem has been
corrected.
4. Restart Lotus Notes. A new outgoing mail database is be created on restart. If the original problem is
resolved, the old outgoing mail database may be deleted.
If the above process has not resolved the original issue, there may be corruption in the template file
(mailbox.ntf) from which the outgoing mail database is created. To resolve this issue you will need to copy this
file from another machine.

Close Lotus Notes.


Search for the mailbox.ntf file on the system (it should be located in the C:\Notes\data folder)
Delete the existing mailbox.ntf file, or move it to a location outside the Notes folder for backup.
Copy mailbox.ntf from another machine into the C:\Notes\Data folder.
Restart Lotus Notes. A new outgoing mail database is created on restart.

34. Determining if your ID is locked out of Lotus Notes mail


and applications
Question:
How do I determine if my ID is locked out of Lotus Notes mail and applications?
Answer:
If your ID is locked out you will see the following message when attempting to access your mail server.

If your ID is locked out you will see the following message when attempting to access any application server.

Restoring access after your ID has been locked out.


In order to restore normal use of Lotus Notes mail and Lotus Notes applications, the Lotus Notes ID must be
unlocked using the appropriate ID unlock tool/process. See Links to Lotus Notes ID Unlock Tools for more details
on this process.
Access to Lotus Notes mail will be restored within 24 hours; access to Lotus Notes applications will be restored
within 48 hours. The unlocked ID will be locked again 72 hours after being restored if the cause of the initial
lockout is not resolved.
If you were locked out because you are not running an ITCS104-compliant Lotus Notes client level, please refer
to the Upgrading the Notes Client page.
If you were locked out because your password had not been changed, you should change your password
immediately when you launch Lotus Notes after being unlocked

When opening the Lotus Notes Its showing this Error

Solution: Pls follow below steps.


File------- security---- user security--- then it is asking password pls give u r current pasword-after that you can uncheck for the following option Login to notes using your oprating
system login--------- click on OK button

36. Error: unable to see the meeting entries in the calendar


Click on Tools -> Preferences -> Calendar & Todo -> Display
Check for the below settings for displaying calendar entries in mail views and try to apply the
same on your machine.
