CALL FOR WORKS

EUROPEAN CONTEMPORARY COMPOSERS ORCHESTRA (ECCO)

Creators Conference Closing Concert - February 24th 2015

The European Composer and Songwriter Alliance (ECSA) is pleased to launch a call for
works to be considered for the ECCO Closing Concert of the Creators Conference, ECSAs
trademark event, which will be held on 24th of February 2015.
Deadline for entry is: Sunday, 21st of December 2014 (Midnight).
1. EUROPEAN CONTEMPORARY COMPOSERS ORCHESTRA (ECCO)
ECCO is a project of the ecf committee of ECSA. It aims to establish itself as a pan-European
body of sound dedicated to performance, circulation and promotion of contemporary art
music as well as gaining new audience. In practice, it is a network of active ensembles,
orchestras and young professionals, supporting creative dialogue among composers and
performers and offering young professionals the opportunity to develop their skills with
ensembles experienced in contemporary performing practices on an international level. By its
educational dimension ECCO serves as a pro-active development and networking arena for
professional composers and performers, especially young and emerging ones. It also aspires to
combine music with different forms of artistic expressions and techniques, e.g. electronics,
multimedia or crossover art performance.
We are pleased to announce that the Sturm und Klang Ensemble from Brussels was selected to
serve as a core of ECCO for the next edition of the Creators Conference. This passionate
ensembles name is a contemporary response to the Sturm & Drang ideal. The ensemble
shares an appetite and a strong commitment to projects that claim dynamism, sensitivity and
creativity and highly values energy, fire and enthusiasm. Conducted by its artistic director,
Thomas van Haeperen, ECCO will also include four international young professionals, who will
be given the opportunity to work directly with the experienced members of Sturm und Klang
as well as participating composers whose pieces were selected for the program! Two of these
young professionals will be chosen among the international young musicians who currently
reside in Belgium and the other two will be selected through ECSAs lively network.
