has established a
field

group of sales
experts designed
to provide our
customers with
the most qualified support in the NDT
industry. Key to this strategy is the addition
of Mr. Tim Harz as National Sales Manager.
Tim has over 20 years of NDT experience
and holds Level III certification in Liquid
Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Inspection.
Tim is responsible for a new staff of Regional
Sales Managers who will work closely
with him, our distributors, and the
MAGNAFLUX technical and sales support staff
to identify customer needs, solve customer

problems and assist in customer process and

cost improvement measures.
This new structure is designed to provide customers with options that will meet all of their
purchasing requirements. Customers can still

Daraclean Aqueous Cleaners

Why do cleaners foam?

Why do parts rust after

they are cleaned?

Why do parts have a

residue on them?

Foam can be caused by a number of things,

and usually occurs in spray washers. Verify
that the cleaner you are using was designed
for spray cleaning and not ultrasonic or
some other immersion type of cleaning
where the agitation is low. Most waterbased cleaners are designed to be used
when heated to a temperature of at least
130F, if they are sprayed at lower temperatures, they may foam. Even if the temperature gauge reads 130F, when the cleaner
is sprayed, it will drop as much as 20F
which will drop it below the foam point of
130F. If the cleaner is sprayed on a piece
of cold metal, it might drop even further.
Make sure your cleaner is at the correct
temperature before you turn on the pump.
This will keep your cleaner in the tank,
and not on the floor.

Most water-based cleaners contain rust

inhibitors, but are usually water-soluble.
This means that if you rinse the parts with
water after they are cleaned, the rust
inhibitor will be removed, which leaves the
exposed part open to rust. If you get a rusty
part after it has been washed, the good
news is it must be clean, but a rusty part
isnt normally what you want. Adding a
very small amount of cleaner to the rinse
tank can prevent this rusting. Some cleaners will naturally be carried from the wash
tank to the rinse tank on the parts. This
may be enough to control minor rusting,
but if not, more cleaner or a rust inhibitor
may be added to the rinse tank. Drying
parts as soon as possible is a good way to
reduce rusting potential, but if you are
using heat, make sure the parts are completely dry, as the heated surface is more
likely to rust if any moisture is left behind.

This goes along with the rusty parts

question. Wash water and cleaner will
naturally be transferred from the wash
tank to the rinse tank. As I mentioned, a
little bit of this will help prevent rusting,
but too much cleaner in the rinse tank
may leave a residue. In most cases, 2% or
under will not leave a problem residue. A
washer that does not have a rinse must
be monitored for signs of residue as the
bath ages. The older and more concentrated the cleaner bath, the greater the
tendency to leave a residue. If this condition occurs try adding water. If dilution does not work, the bath should be
dumped and recharged.

International Sales Meeting Held In Spring

The MAGNAFLUX International Sales Meeting
was held April 22nd & 23rd at our Glenview
Sales and Marketing Office. MAGNAFLUX Sales
Representatives and Distributors, from Asia, Latin
America, Australia and England (17 different
countries in all), traveled a great distance to attend.
By bringing our international sales force together, we
were able to provide hands-on product training, and
exchange knowledge of both domestic and international markets. This will help us to meet our goal to
increase sales of MAGNAFLUX products overseas.
