b) Attempt any TWO of the following:

Draw sketch of flat plate collector. Label the points on it.

Attempt any FOUR of the following:

a) Calculate enthalpy of 1 kg of steam at a pressure of 7 bar


and dryness fraction 0.8. How much heat would be required
to raise 2 kg of this steam from water at 30oC?
Take Cpw = 4.187 KJ/kg oC
b) A composite wall is formed of 2 cm copper plate, 4 mm layer
of asbestos and 4.8 cm of fiber glass. The wall (from surface
to surface) is subjected to temperature difference of 400oC.
Considering heat flow in one direction, from surface to surface,
Calculate heat flow per m2 area of wall.
Take K copper = 370 w/mc,
K asbestos = 150 w/mc
K fiber glass = 74 w/mc
c) A carnot refrigerator requires 1.3 kw/ton of refrigeration to
maintain the temperature of 247 K. Find (i)

COP of refrigerator

(ii)

Temperature at which heat is rejected.


(Take 1 ton of refrigeration = 3.517 Kw)

d) Differentiate between Isobaric and Isochoric process.


e) List 6 boiler mountings sketch any one.
f)

c) The initial volume of 0.18 kg of a certain gas was 0.15 m3
at a temperature of 15oC and a pressure of 1 bar. After
adiabatic compression to 0.056 m3, the pressure was found
to be 4 bar.
