This month's Kidney Konnection celebrates World Kidney Day (WKD). World Kidney Day is the 2nd Thursday of M arch and began in
2006 when health care professionals from 66 nations came together to highlight the devastating consequences of chronic kidney disease
(CKD). Each year World Kidney Day focuses on a specific theme related to CKD: this year's theme: Kidney H ealth For All.
We're celebrating World Kidney Day by testing your knowledge about the global epidemic that is kidney disease. M atch the nation that
most appropriately fits with the clues below. For example, if the clue were: almost 50% of causes of CKD are attributed to diabetes

1. Taiwan. Taiwan leads the world in CKD incidence, ahead of both Japan and the United States, with > 400 cases per million annually
2. Singapore. It is reported that over 60% of all causes of CKD are due to diabetes mellitus (compared to ~ 44% in the US)
3. China. Approximately 43% of all cases of CKD are due to GN s and not diabetes mellitus

5. N icaragua. The second country whose #1 all- cause mortality is CKD is El Salvador.

vitamin A deficiency, childhood obesity, low birth weight, and preterm birth.
9. USA. Canada and M exico have, respectively, a 18% and 65.8% utilization of peritoneal dialysis.
10. Kuwait. Followed by Iran and Jordan.
