Vintage Lace Scarf in Chunky Yarn- Worked to and fro.

Note- In order to have the scallops on each scarf end, knit two separate pieces and join together
when binding off.
Freedom wool by Twileys of Stamford was used in the You Tube video.
Use a Chunky yarn that recommends on the ball band, a needle size ranging from 8 to 10mm. Expect
to purchase between 8-12, 50g balls of yarn. The yarn useage is approximate and may vary
depending upon your choice of yarn.
Cast on 43 sts (or an amount divisible by 7 plus 1 extra stitch).

Main Pattern
Row 1: K2tog, k2 * yfwd, k2, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2 rep* At end yfwd, k2, k2tog. Right side.
Row 2: P3, * yo, p6 rep* at end yo, p4.
Continue as rows 1 and 2 until your scarf is 50cm long. End work ready to start a wrong side row.
Place on a holder.
Create another panel in exactly the same manner. With right sides together (right sides facing each
other on the inside) do a three needle bind off.
This Lace stitch works beautifully in many yarn thicknesses. A 4 ply yarn for example gives a
wonderful vintage feel. The finer the yarn the more stitches you may wish to cast on.

Vintage Lace Cowl- worked in the round with a circular needle.

Freedom wool by Twileys of Stamford, shade 434 was used in the You Tube video.
For chunky yarn using 10mm needles 98sts is ideal.
To work in the round with 63 sts or less use double pointed needles method.
Cast on an amount divisible by 7 using an appropriate circular needle.

Main Pattern
Use a marker to denote starting point before commencing round 1.
Row 1: * K1, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, yf, k1 rep* (right side). Use a marker to denote starting point
before commencing.
Row 2: * K4, yf, k2 rep* until last 6sts and k4, yf, k1 and sl1 onto left needle, repositioning marker as
you do this. Failure to sl1 to the left at the very end will result in the pattern not working so it is very
important not to forget!
Repeat rows 1 and 2 to form the main pattern.

Option A- Scallops to top edge only

Work between 50 and 54 rounds of the main pattern and then cast off.

Option B- Scallops to top and bottom edge

Complete two pieces of knitting 25 or 27 rounds long and name panel 1 and panel 2. It is very
important that you end both panels after completing a round 1 of the main pattern. Place one panel
on a circular needle holder whilst you form the second panel.

Panel one - K3 sts over to right needle.

With panel one at the top and panel 2 beneath and with the right sides facing upmost, both sections
should now marry and align in readiness for the kitchener stitch.
Join the panels together with kitchener stitch.

Vintage Lace Stitch- DPN method

Cast on a number of sts divisible by 7 and divide in multiples of 7 over 3 DPNs.
Keep distribution of sts as evenly as possible.
Round 1: * K1, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, yf, k1 rep *
Round 2: * K4, yf, k2 rep * until last 6sts then k4, yf, k1 and sl1 onto the left needle to use in the
next round.

Main Pattern

N1 & N2 only - * K1, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, yf, k1 rep * twice and slip rem st onto left needle.
N3- * K1, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, yf, k1 rep * twice
Round 4: * K4, yf, k2 rep * until last 6sts then k4, yf, k1 and sl1 onto the left needle to use in the next
