FROM THE PASTOR
A VOW FOR THE NEW YEAR
Making plans for your life in the New Year? Could it be that God already has a
plan for you and is patiently waiting for you to make the plan a reality?
When one considers how everything seems to have a purpose in nature
(atoms, genes, plants, animals, etc), it makes sense to believe that each of us
has a purpose as well. On the other hand, if all of creation seems to have just
happened without any reason, then this means our minds and spirits must have
no reason or purpose as well. How can we trust them?
But, believers trust that there is a great Intelligence that brought everything into
existence.
There is a Mind and a Heart at the center of all creation. If thats the case, then
life can only make sense when we seek what the Creator has in mind for us.
Jesus, who knew the Mind and Heart of God better than anyone who ever lived
on Earth, once said to the erring Peter: You are setting your mind not on divine
things but on human things (Mark 8: 33 NRSV).
Setting our minds on human things can get us into trouble. Thats why it often
seems we live in a crazy mixed up world. How can life ever be fulfilling, without
the purpose God has for that life?
To set ones mind on divine things leads us to consider the one vow we should
take seriously for the new year. Your will Lord. Your will and nothing else.

HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE A CHRISTIAN?

A Christian can never be raging with hatred, intent on
revenge, grim-faced without mercy or forgiveness. No,
a Christian will reveal sincerity through and through,
throbbing with compassion and love, quick to smile and
laugh, and always checking to make sure the spirit of
Christ is in him or her. Christ in us is the hope of glory.
_______________
O God, as we approach a New Year, enable us to be
truly new within ourselves. May we begin this year with
a forgiving heart and a new understanding of what you
desire for us. In Christs Name, Amen.

In just a few days we will be entering

into the New Year, which means it is
also time for new Tithe Books. If you
are a regular tither, we have a book
with your name & number on it. This
number is used by the Church
Treasurer to keep a record of your
giving so that you get a statement of
your giving at the end of the year for
tax purposes. This is a free book
with a tithe envelope for every week
of the year and a place to keep your
giving record. If you have not been a
regular tither but would like to start
the New Year off by obeying Gods
Word by giving your 10% tithe unto
the Lord, see Shirley Jones and she
will get you a book.

It is of practical value to learn to like

yourself, you might as well get some
satisfaction out of the relationship.
____________
A small boys prayer: Dear God, I
hope you take care of yourself.
Cause if anything happens to you,
we would all be in a terrible mess.

THE RIGHT FACIAL EXPRESSION

Church Security
th

Dec 28

Brandon Snyder

The gifted English preacher, Charles

Spurgeon (1834-1892), was telling a group
of young pastors that their facial
expressions should be in harmony with the
subject they were focusing on. When you
speak of heaven, he said, let your face
light up and be irradiated with a heavenly
gleam. Let your eyes shine with reflected
glory. And when you speak of hellwell,
then your everyday face will do. (Copied)
