" 86 " LOCKOUT RELAY

A typical Lockout Relay would have two positions "TRIP - RESET". Under normal
condition, the handle would be turned to "RESET" position and would remain mechanically
latched at this position. The Lockout Relay contact LR which is in series with the Lockout
Relay coil would be closed at the 'RESET" position only. The fault contact FC makes only
when there is a fault in the circuit.
When the Lockout Relay coil LR is energise, it would released the mechanical latch
holding the handle at 'RESET" position and the handle would spring return to 'TRIP"
position. So long as FC remains at close contact condition ( due tothe presence of a fault
in the circuit ) the handle will not latched at "RESET" position but would always spring
return to "TRIP "

APPLICATION

The Lockout Relay is a high speed Automatic Trip/Manual Reset auxiliary relay permitting simultaneous operations of up to 48 contacts from 10A to 80A for AC and 10A to 63A
for DC.
Lockout Relays are normally connected to the fault sensing contacts of the circuit
breakers. If a fault should occur, the Lockout Relays ensure that all the critical circuits are
isolated and would remain isolated so long as the fault is not cleared. It's positive trip
action ensures that all the contacts would perform as to requirements and it multi-contact
arrangement eliminates the need for several control relays contacts.

When coil LR is energise, the mechanical latch holding the handle is release, and
the handle spring returns to "TRIP" position. Contact LR opens to isolate the coil from
the power supply to prevent overheating of the coil.

b. Lockout Relay without manual release. Testing of the switching system can be
carried out by energising the coil.

CONSTRUCTION DETAILS

WARNING

The parts of the Lockout Relays are:

The Electro-magnetic System
The coils of the electro-magnetic system is totally
encapsulated with a series built in contact LR. This contact will make at "RESET" or "ON"
position and opens at 'TRIP" or "OFF" position. The same coil of rated voltage can be used
for 50/60hz or DC. Coils are available for voltage of 24V-500V/50hz, 24V-660V/60hz and
24V-220V/DC. The specifications of the coils in ohms are:

To obtain maximum tripping speed, the Lockout Relay coils are rated for intermittent
duty only. Continous energisation of the coil and may result in overheating of the coil.

2.

The Switching Contacts System

The contacts used are all double break fast switching silver alloy contacts and are
housed in high grade thermoplastic insulating materials. For corrosive environment like
petro-chemicals plants, gold contacts are available. Switching speed is 10 milli-seconds.
Type A11/A14 have four contact per stage of contact chamber and types C26/C32/C42
have 2 contacts per stage of contact chamber.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS
a. Trip Indicator M120
The Trip Indicator is a mechanical coloured indicator to show the "TRIP /"RESET"
that the handle has been turned to. Hence , when the handle is turn and remain latch at
"RESET" position, the trip indicator shows Green on the window of the escutcheon plate.
If a fault condition arises, the handle will turn to "TRIP" position and the indicator will
show Red on the window. The coding for the trip indicator as follows:
Square escutcheon plate
S1 M120/A21A
M999/US0019

In selecting the coil voltage of the Lockout Relay, it is important to verify if additional coils
e.g. protective relay coils etc.would be connected in series with the Lockout Relay coil. I n
order to ensure that the Lockout Relay can trip should a fault occurs, it is
important :
To adjust the setting of the protective relay T61 coil so that the Lockout Relay can trip
when the coil is energise- refer Fig. 5b.
If the protective relay T61 coil is not adjustable, it is important that the coil voltage of the
Lockout Relay is properly selected to match with the series coil T61 so the Lockout Relay
coil can trip when energise. In such a case, the rated coil voltage of the Lockout relay should
be lower than the DC bus voltage. It is important to ensure that the voltage V1 across the
Lockout Relay coil 86 should not be lower than the Pull-in voltage as
specified
above.
The current flowing in the circuit is sufficient to energise and trip the Lockout Relay coil.

APPLICATION
The Discrepancy Switch allows operation of the circuit breakers remotely from the
control room. An illuminated handle on the discrepancy switch mounted on the mimic panel
would shows the discrepancy between what is shown on the mimic diagram and the real
condition of the circuit breaker. In the normal condition, none of the panel lights would light
up.
Circuit breakers are controlled by a negative lighting system. Hence when the lamp is
lighted " ON", means there is a discrepancy between what is indicated in the control room
and the actual field condition of the circuit breaker.
From the above requirement, a large number of push-buttons, selector switches and
pilot lamps would normally be required to fulfil the control functions. A discrepancy switch
with multi-function can combine all these requirements in a single cam switch.

EB
Fig. 1 - Principle of operation

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION - Fig. 1

A typical Discrepancy Switch would have four positions AB, A, E and EB. Position
A and B are stay-put positions.
To turn from position A to AB, it is necessary to Push-in at position A and then turn to
position AB. Handle will spring-return back to position A when release. Similarly for
positions E and EB. Mechanical interlocks will prevent turning of the handle from A to B
when handle is Push-in.
The switch would operated at two levels:
a. The handle can be Turn from A to B to give a semaphore indication in the mimic panel.
b. The handle will light up whenever any discrepancies between the condition on the

TYPES OF DISCREPANCY SWITCH

Kraus & Naimer discrepancy switch are available in the following sizes:
a.
Size S00 - for switch rating up to 10A. These switches are commonly used in
mimic and mosaic panels. Low voltage switches of gold contact ( Type CA4-1 ) are
available for electronics and thermocouple circuits.

b.
Size S0 - for switch rating from 16A to 32A/AC21. These switches are commonly
used in mimic and mosaic panels. Low voltage switches of silver H- Bridge contact ( type
CAD12 ) or gold H-Bridge contact ( type CAD11) are available for electronics and
thermocouple circuits.

connected in series/parallel network as follows:
Size S00 consist of a single lamp
Size S0 consist of 4 lamps with rating of 1.2W each.
Size S1 consist of 6 lamps with rating of 1.2W each.
The advantage of having more than one lamp is that should one lamp fails, the other
lamps connected in the parallel network still operates but with reduced illumination in case
a discrepancy condition occurs.
c. Auxiliary push-button contacts can be operated which operates when the handle is
Push-in ( S0 AND S1 only )
d. Residual or slip-clutch contact can be incorporated on request ( S0 and S1 only ).

Switch Ratings

The switch contacts operate when the handle is turn. The switches are suitable for
both AC and DC switching . Type CA4-1 with gold contacts are specially suitable for :
Low voltage switching of electronics and thermocouple circuits due to it's low
contact resistance.
Corrosive environment where the gold contact prevent oxidation of the contact
surface which can increases contact resistance.
In selecting the switch model for DC switching, the selection of appropriate switch
depends on:
The DC supply voltage
The DC load current
The type of load - resistive/inductive
In selecting the switch model for low voltage switching, the Dry Circuit Rating
should not be exceeded. The Dry Circuit Rating refers to the relationship between the
supply voltage and load current. If the value exceeds, arcing may occur which would
remove the layer of gold on the contact.

When the handle of a discrepancy switch is turn 90 degrees, the mimic diagram of
the control panel will immediately indicate any circuit interruptions. The handle of the
discrepancy switch will be illuminated to indicate a discrepancy between the condition
as indicated in the mimic panel and the actual condition of the circuit breaker. For
example, if the circuit breaker and the discrepancy switch handle is in the is in the

between what is shown in the mimic panel and the actual condition of the circuit
breaker.
If the circuit breaker TRIP due to a fault condition, the handle of the discrepancy

3. FEATURES OF KEY LOCK DEVICE V750/V750D
The device replace the normal switch handle by a key. Features of the V750/V750D key
lock device are:
a. It has several locking programs which allows the key to be removed up to a maximum of
12 positions.
b. It has several different types of locks/keys. In critical installations, key personals must be
present before operating the electrical circuits. This can be done by issuing different keys
to operate different key switches to the key personals. Hence all the key personals must be
present to switch on all the key switches fitted with different locks before the installation can
finally be switched on. Master key lock systems are available.
c. It is available with single hole mounting of
22/25/30 mm for S0 switch (20-32A AC21)
40 mm for S1 switch ( 32-63A/AC21)

4. FEATURES
Kraus & Naimer is able to offer a wide range of key operated switches where:
a. Standard switches are used but the key locks can be programmed for safety/security
applications.
b. Non-standard switches are required with standard programs.
c. Non-standard switches are required with special programs.

1. APPLICATION
Key operated switches are extensively used in situations :
To prevent inadvertent operation of the electrical circuits.
To provide security against unauthorised operations of the electrical circuits.
To ensure that the key operational personals are in attendance before the critical
electrical circuits can be operated.

In ordering key switches, the following information are required:

The V900 basically resembles the features of a

cylinder lock. Therefore, it provides a number of features
which are usually found on cylinder locks such as:
Variety of locking arrangement
Removal of the key in predetermined positions.
Master key lock system.
It can be operated by a flat key ( V902 ) or a key
equipped with a Kraus & Naimer Size S1 handle which
gives it the feature of a "removable handle " control
switch.
The following information are required
when orderinga standard switch/special switch which is to
be fitted with a V900.

a.

The locking profile refers to the type of key lock selected which would make it suitable for
master group key lock system, group key lock system or individual key lock.
