THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

FINAL BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

I need to make a correction from my article last week. My

first night of study for our new Wednesday evening
elective is February 11, 2015. We will study the
theme: To Live Is Christ To Die Is Gain. The reason
for the change is due to our annual congregational
meeting on February 4th. More details to come!

Ive been writing Bits for a lot of years. This

will, however, be my final installment as
Associate Minister. Thus, closes another phase
of life and we anticipate the next. What does
God have in store? I am optimistic! This being
my last shot, I want to use this space to
communicate some heart thoughts.

I hope everyone enjoyed spending time together at our

Christmas Eve service. Let me say how much I
appreciated everyone who led and served during this
special event.
A BIG THANK YOU to all who sent cards and gave
gifts to my family during Christmas. Your
generosity is greatly appreciated.
I want to thank Dave for preaching in my absence today.
Kim and I are using some vacation days. A special thanks
also for Hank Wellman for teaching my Sunday School
class today and for Lowell agreeing to lead a
Singspiration tonight during our evening service.
As we approach 2015 I ask that you keep this verse in
mind. Luke 9:23 reads: And he said to them all, If
any man will come after me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
As the story goes, when missionary Dr. David Livingstone
was working in Africa, a group of friends wrote him: "We
would like to send other men to you. Have you found a
good road into your area yet?" Dr. Livingstone sent this
message in reply: "If you have men who will only come if
they know there is a good road, I don't want them. I want
men who will come if there is no road at all."
Theres a big difference between just being interested in
doing something and actually making a commitment to
doing it! Just being interested allows us the freedom do a
thing only when our circumstances permit. But making a
commitment to do that thing means accepting no excuses
and no reservations it means putting aside our fears
and reservations moving forward till we see the end
result! Dr. Livingstone was looking for results, and this
required men of commitment!
As we approach 2015, lets make some commitments!
Lord, our families, our jobs and our congregations
awaiting us! Lets not just say we have an interest,
lets be committed to doing whatever it takes in
service to the Lord.
See you next Sunday,
Brad

Our
are
but
our

Sue and I, wish to thank each of you for your

kind Christmas gifts and cards. We are, also, so
grateful for your concern and prayers during my
recent hospital adventure. The Fifth Avenue
family has shown us so much kindness over
these past 30+ years that we are humbled as we
look back. Although, I will not be working in any
official capacity (other than as teacher of the
Harmony Class) I hope to remain faithful in
service and available to my friends. I aint dead
yet! I have agreed to plan a few special events,
for seniors, in 2015. Watch for announcements
regarding these.
FINAL THOUGHT . From George Bilby Walker
You know how much Im grateful, God,
For kind and thoughtful friends
Its folks like these that bring my life
Its richest dividends
Because they bring a friendly word,
They share a smile or two
And skies that had a tinge of gray
Become a brighter blue.

A great big "Thank You" to all the children who

provided a special song with bells last Sunday!
You did a great job! Thank you also to all the
adults who donated food items, craft items, time,
and effort for their party. You helped us have a
really fun time. As we come into the new year, we
are looking forward to teaching, praying, singing,
and playing with your children during the kids
worship hour. We are blessed and thankful to have
great teachers and helpers serving in this
ministry. Happy New Year!

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all
issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear
concerning what a person must do to become a
Christian.
Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation.
Turn (repent) from the sin in your life.
Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord
of your life.
Be baptized (immersed) in water for the
forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy
Spirit into your life.
To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you
come forward during our commitment song at the
conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers
are welcome to become members at FACC by coming
forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior
Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you
complete a series of Curious classes to help you
better understand what you are committing to as a
member. If you would like to take a Curious class,
please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card.

Core Values...

Library Spotlight

Values central to the life, mission and vision

of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:
Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our
music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through gracebased preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our
authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony &
live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity
of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism,
proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and SoonComing King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to
find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to
serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His
church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

You Are Special by Max Lucado is a book

for elementary readers. The world tells kids,
Youre special if If you have the brains,
the looks, the talent. God tells them,
Youre special just because. No
qualifications necessary. Only one of those
messages will find its place in their hearts.
Thats why every child you know needs to
hear this one, reassuring truth: You Are
Precious in His Sight. Max Lucados
delightful, fully illustrated childrens tale will
help you say it again and again with love.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of
Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks
a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other
words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change
your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical
marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah
56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).

OUR PURPOSE

WE EXIST TO

Exalt Gods Greatness;

Evangelize Gods Work
Equip Gods People
Express Gods Love through Jesus Christ

OUR MISSION

To Love God and Love

People!

Just Give Me Jesus by Anne Graham Lotz

will forever change your perception of the
most beloved scenes from our Saviors life
on Earth and make them amazingly
applicable to your own personal struggles.
The book has unforgettable imagery and
challenging lessons to lead you on a vividly
absorbing mission of discovering Who Jesus
really is. Youll find fresh and compelling
insights that draw you into the Gospel of
John an eyewitness account of Jesus life
on Earth. As you witness Jesus face-to-face
encounters with men and women two
thousand years ago, youll also encounter His
extraordinary, life-changing touch for
yourself.
Stop by the library and check out a good
book. If you have any questions about the
library, contact Delores Payne.
