Bring on the Ice! Apostle Islands Winter Caves May Form Again! Plan now! - Bayfield
One of the Great Lakes most spectacular but rare - natural winter phenomena occurred in
the early months of 2014 as the snow pack and favorable weather conditions created dramatic
ice caves on the Lake Superior shoreline in the Apostle Islands area between Bayfield and
Cornucopia, Wisconsin. These ice caves dont develop every year and in 2014 it had been
about five years since viewing had been favorable. Word spread quickly and some 138,000
people from all over the world made the 1.25 mile trek through snow and lake ice to see the
natural wonders. The unexpected surge in visitors required a fast response by the National
Park Service to help with parking, sanitary facilities, interpretation, facilities and guides. This
years early weather patterns suggest the caves are quite likely to form again and the park
service expects many more visitors. To help offset expenses they will require a $5 daily (or $10
seasonal) visitor permit for access to the area. Anyone planning to visit should make lodging
reservations in Bayfield (www.bayfield.org), Washburn, Ashland or Cornucopia, check ice
conditions and buy a permit at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Office. (715) 779-3397

Meet Santa the Rock Star - House on the Rock Spring Green
Everything about the House on the Rock attraction in Spring Green is jaw-dropping amazing,
so its no real surprise that the Santa Show is the Super Bowl of Santa displays. More than
6000 Santas, Saint Nicks, Old Man Christmases and dozens of elves, helpers, reindeer,
sleighs and other holiday bling mark the season through January 4. This most awesome
display is in Sections 1 and 2 while Section 3 is closed for now. Allow 2 to 2 1/2 hours for your

Now Jan 11, 2015 Winona, MN - See Master Works by Ansel Adams - Winona, MN
One of Americas favorite photographers was Ansel Adams (1902 1984) whose stunning black
and white images celebrated the American West. An exhibit of his is at Minnesota Marine Art
Museum in Winona, Minnesota. Classic Images: Ansel Adams Photographs is a collection of
more than seventy photos printed by the artist himself. The exhibition spans two galleries and
pays tribute to Adams life in photography. An environmentalist, pianist, lecturer, writer and
master photographer, Adams helped establish photography as a respected art form in the 20th

Here Comes the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum - Milwaukee
Sports fans everywhere are boldly shaking their heads yes as plans have been announced to
create The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee. Expected to open
in 2016, the Hall of Fame and Museum will house the worlds largest bobblehead collection as
well as dozens of bobblehead-related exhibits, a gift shop, a bobblehead-themed restaurant

10 Ashland - The Horse Knows the Way! - 29th Annual Sleigh & Cutter Rally
Before automobiles and highways opened access to the north, winter travelers often used
horse drawn sleighs to get through the snow. On January 10, 2015 the Northern Great Lakes
Visitors Center at Ashland will turn back the pages of time to the 1800s as spectacular
costumes, antique sleighs and sleek cutters recreate the look of a by-gone era in the
Northwoods. Everyone is invited to be a part of history at the 29th Annual Northwoods Sleigh
and Cutter Rally. Free sleigh rides are sponsored by Northern State Bank from 11 a.m.-12:30

Keep an eye out for our countrys national bird while in Prairie du Sac for Bald Eagle Watching

24 Waupaca - Oso Pond Hockey Classic The former Wintervergnugen Pond Hockey
Classic is back with a new name and even more fun. This 4-on-4 tournament has three

24 Feb 1 Cable - 2015 IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships the International
Paralympics Committee (IPC) Nordic Skiing World Championships. The competition begins
with Opening Ceremonies, much like the Olympics and Paralympics Games, complete with a

Mount Horeb Area Scandihoovian Winter Festival in and around Mount Horeb. Stroll, shop, eat,
and play at one of Dane Countys most unique and charming villages. Most events are free,
while some have a modest charge. Friday nights big events include a community mixer and
social at the Norsk Golf Bowl with music by the Pool Boys, bonfire, and nighttime XC skiing and
snowshoeing. Saturdays events include a vintage snowmobile show and ride, an old-fashioned
spelling bee at the District #1 School House, sledding, ice skating, cross-country skiing
