2014 Decoda Graduate Collective & Mentorship

Programme (for Dance).

12th-16th January 2015
The Performing Arts Department are offering graduates of Dance the opportunity to
participate in a project intended draw on the principles of collective working and support
graduate dance artists to work together to develop creatively and artistically.
The project will focus on graduates working as freelance artists within the contemporary Dance
sector.
Graduates will be invited to form a collective, facilitated by Decoda (a professional dance
organization in Coventry, whose host partner is Coventry University). This will enable freelance
graduate dance artists to work together in support of one another. The collective offers an
alternative to the choreographer-led company model. This work has been developed through a
pilot graduate project at Decoda in 2013 with Laurel Tentindo.(http://www.decoda-uk.org).
The graduates also have the option of working with a mentor, drawn from Figure Eight and the
Independent Dance (ID) ambassadors. There will be opportunities for Artists to present their
work and share their practice with mentors and a wider industry facing audience. This will be an
ongoing project that will facilitate a continuing graduate collective company who will collectively
gain funding and present work at festivals, shows, conferences and other dance related industry
events.
