Survey about Internet Standardization in Nepal

The development of internet in Nepal has been phenomenal in every aspect of its use and technology.
When it comes down to adaptability and accessibility, the normal public are still confused in
understanding their basic rights and proper use of internet. The lack of understanding and knowledge
has resulted in a vacuum to see internet just as a commodity of Information Technology limited within
networks of computers.
With this limited approach people have been suffering the harsh aspect of technology. Whether you call
it Information Technology knowledge or Capacity but even educated people fail to realize their basic
rights and standards of internet. The basic gap in between the technology and realism is that we have
orthodox syllable that focuses more towards theoretical approach of IT where today internet itself has
grown to a world of itself. We can say we have policy and regulation but when it comes down to practice
at grounds level people are suffering the consequence of not knowing their rights.
Practically speaking, technology has many uses where people are knowingly or unknowingly exploiting
its use but on the same hand due to lack of proper knowledge they are also fighting to struggle to keep
up with the standards of internet.

Survey Conclusions:
From the introduction of internet in Nepal till now internet has changed, it has changed it ways from
being an office application to the part of daily lives of people. Every day hundred and thousands of fraud
and fake mails are send. Some ignore it, some report it and some just take it as normal but have we
thought that since we have accepted it spamming and fraudulent cases have increased dramatically in
Nepal. It is the ignorance of people and their attitude that has given a rise in criminal activities online.
Whether you talk about quality of standard of internet or identity theft or social media crisis, people are
bound to suffer because
1. They dont know what it is?
2. They have no idea about whom to reach
3. They are not sure about what to do?
In such scenario the role of government is not just limited within building infrastructure, or Making
policy and regulation or disseminating information. The role of government is immense, it has to be
alert in every sense of safeguarding public welfare.
Having said that we cannot expect the government to do everything. It is the role of every citizen where
the government should take the lead in adapting and understating the voices of the public. The
government cannot work alone focusing more towards specific sectors, it has to be dynamic,
accountable and liable to see and understand if those police are feasible and if it is adaptable or not.
We use latest technology and devices in our daily lives and we fail to understand the basic standard of
its uses and mechanism. The irony of the talk is there should be proper knowledge and campaigns
regarding awareness of internet knowledge and standards.
Lets not make a blind system that just focuses on policy and infrastructure, lets make a system that is
independent envisioned towards future. As technology is growing and with this boom we need to make
our citizen more smart and better in every sense of making the use of technology as a boon not as a
curse .

Recommendations:
The recommendation are listed below
1. There is a gap in between the usage and understanding of internet which needs to be overcome
2. Proper awareness campaign regarding rights should be disseminated
3. The curriculum of Information Technology studied should be updated adapting basic
terminology of internet governance and current happening
4. There should be proper mechanism for monitoring the Quality of Standard
5. Awareness regarding online fraud and cybercrime should be disseminated

6. Proper mechanism should be set up for managing cyber-crime and other externalities
