She was 90 years old and she died at

Depend Upon God

for a Better Life
by Maulana M. K. Hydal
Life gives us two options: to complain about the problems we have
or to be grateful for the problems
we dont have. Luqmaan advised
his son: Be grateful to Allah.
Whoever is grateful, is grateful to
his own soul. (Quran, 31:12) To

be grateful, each day of our life our greatest concern is: Am I better off today than
before?
The factors that influence the quality
of life are basically four:
1. Health care am I better off in my
health and in the quality of services available?;
2. Crime am I and my family safe
and my earnings secure?;
3. Income has my income increased
to meet expenses?;
4. Opportunity is my environment
(roads, facilities, water, etc.) cleaner and
improved?
But the real question to be asked is:
Am I closer to God today, than before? I
do not focus merely on my material aspects of life, I also meditate on how much
my spiritual self has improved. Upon
whom do I depend to be better off?
No individual can provide everything
for himself or herself. Every community
pools its resources and gives authority to
others to make our lives better. Millions
are spent to elect a government to negotiate our interests or solve our concerns.

Most people depend upon the

government to solve their basic
problems. When it does not, they
change the government.
Very few persons depend upon
God. People change governments
expecting better, only to complain
later that they are worse off than
before.
Governments change, God
does not! You will find no change
in the way of Allah (Quran,
33:62). Allah alone has all resources available to assist us in any
challenge we may face in life. Rely
on Him.
By means of the Quran, Islam
changed not only the Arabs, it
changed the destiny of the world.

today can enhance our quality of

life. The Quran is a Divine Scripture that lists three simple concepts to increase the quality of
life:
1. ONE GOD Allah is Ahad
(Quran, 112:1);
2. ONE HUMANITY humankind is a single nation
(Quran. 2:113, 10:19);
3. FREEDOM of thought and
behaviour there is no compulsion in religion (Quran, 2:256).
Life requires two nutrients:
spiritual food and physical food.
For physical food the body absorbs
the nutrients necessary for existence and excretes the filth. For
spiritual food the human soul absorbs knowledge then digests the
good and eliminates the bad.
In a communal meal we are
happy in our togetherness regardless of family or religion or race or
age or gender. Our togetherness
makes us happy, whereas separation makes us sad. The Quran
teaches that we are happy when
we are one with God, when we
are together with God. With Allah is the happy result of affairs (Quran, 22:41) Togetherness makes us one. God is One.
His many attributes exist together
as One. God says: Pray to Me, I
will answer you (Quran, 40:60).
To pray to God, do two things:
recognise and glorify Him
(Quran, 2:152), and then ask for
His help. (Quran, 1:4, 2:45,
7:128).
When last did I pray to God?
When last did I just feel in my
heart that I need God and I want
to ask something of Him, I want
to communicate with Him? If that
question is difficult to answer,
make it an easy one from now on
by constant remembrance of God.
It is in Allahs remembrance that
hearts find comfort (Quran,
13:28).
The attributes of God are
given to us to enable us to enhance the quality of our life. God
is Forgiving and Generous. When

we are forgiving and generous, we

improve our life. God is Love.
When we love, we enhance our
life. The quality of life is enhanced
when we develop the attributes of
God with us, when we become the
embodiment of Gods attributes,
when we are one with God, when
the word (the name) of God becomes (our) flesh.
In this life we have many choices.
For the Hereafter we have only two
choices: go to heaven or go to hell.
To make that choice let your mantra, your motto be: Worship Allah
or go to hell.

A Letter to
The Daily Telegraph
Lord Pearson wrote the following
letter to the The Daily Telegraph
(11th April 14).
SIR Fraser Nelson says that
the good British Muslim is truly
one amongst us and proud to be
so. That is right, but it skates over
the deeper problem within Islam,
which is a single political, religious
and legal system, taking its authority solely from the Koran, the
Hadith and the Sunna.
Unfortunately, the things Mohammed did and said later in his
life the Verses of the Sword
give ample inspiration and justification to the jihadists, and, under the
Muslim tenet of abrogation, are
held to outweigh the earlier Verses
of Peace.
Since September 11 2001,
there have been some 18,000 attacks by Islamists worldwide, killing 206,000 people (45 a day), a
majority of them Muslim.
So the question becomes: if
Islam is a religion of peace, and if
the Jihadists form such a tiny minority, why do the vast majority
not get together and issue a fatwa
to cast them out of Islam?
Couldnt they organise a Great
Council and decree that the Verses
of the Sword are to be taken as
referring to the internal struggle

between good and evil in each one

of us, and that true Islam flows only
from the Verses of Peace?
If they dont, is it because they
darent?
Lord Pearson of Rannoch

Our reply to the

The Daily Telegraph
Sir, - Lord Pearson says that there is
a deeper problem with Islam. He is
wrong. The problem is with Muslims understanding of Islam and
not with the teachings of Islam.
Just as Christian religion cannot
blamed for apartheid in South Africa or the carnage in Northern
Ireland, Jewish religion for the
murder of unarmed refugees by Mr
Sharon and his friends, Islamic religion cannot be blamed for the
way Muslims act.
Our organisation, founded 100
years ago, has been preaching that
Islam is a religion of peace and only
allows Muslims to fight in selfdefence or to protect an individuals freedom of conscience. But we
find that the Western media and
politicians have little time for us. To
give one example only, when we
invited a member of the House of
Commons to a convention to promote peace and harmony between
religions and communities, he declined. The frank reason he gave
was that by attending our conference he would have lost the votes
of our Sunni brothers who outnumber us by a great margin. This
politician wanted to pander to
those Muslims who support the
verse of the sword and the theory
of abrogation. All British governments have supported and financed
Sunni organisations which propagate these incorrect beliefs.
I request Lord Pearson to help
us reserve a room in the Parliament
for us to give a presentation about
what the real teachings of Islam
are.
Yours faithfully,
Shahid Aziz, Secretary
Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat Islam
