Welcome to Kil-Kare Raceway!

Thank you for coming to the races. We realize that you want the best
racing action, courteous service, and to visit ultra-clean facilities. If you
ever feel that you are not satisfied, or see an area where we can improve
your visit, please let an official know. We try to make your visit
enjoyable. We want to entertain you, thrill you, and expect you to return
with your friends and families. Once again, thank you for coming to
Kil-Kare!

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO OUR FACILITY

Kil-Kare Raceway is one of a small number of multi-purpose motorsports
facilities in the United States. Originally, the grounds consisted of 100
or so acres named Kil-Kare Park. The electric railroads ran between the
Park, Xenia, Dayton and Springfield. Dating back to 1900, the park was
a popular gathering spot for local groups because of the Miami River,
which borders the facility on the west. A bath house and ballroom
provided guests with plenty of entertainment options. Today, we are one
of a half dozen facilities with stock car and drag racing tracks.
Kil-Kare Raceway is affiliated with the two largest and most prestigious
racing sanctions---NASCAR and NHRA. Both bodies provide national
recognition for race drivers, support the facilities and help foster
competition. The results are obvious. Motorsports is the largest and most
popular form of sport in the United States. Goodyear Tire Company
estimated attendance at NASCAR Winston Cup events at well over 6
million people in 1992. In addition, Kil-Kare hosts events by the Miami
Valley Quarter Midgets Association, and the Automobile Race Cars of
America (ARCA). We are lucky and proud to be part of these great
organizations.

TONIGHT AT KIL-KARE SPEEDWAY

Tonight's program is the fifthe year Kil-Kare has hosted the ARCA
Supercar Series. These events have seen many different winners, with
local favorites dueling with national champions for the finish line. In
1992, Bill Venturini won the spring race with Bob Keselowski as polesitter, while in the Firecracker 150 Roy Payne took the pole, and
Keselowski outlasted the competition for the win. Don't forget the encore
appearance on June 25th. We hope you enjoy the excitement of ARCA!

TIM SIEELE WINS PCm.AN PRO SOOk ARCA lIXlTERS CUP SOOES RACE AT. 'IALLADffiA
IAILADffiA, AL-Rookie t1Jn Steele won Saturday's Poulan Pro 500k ARCA Hooters Cup Series race

at Talladega Superspeedvay when he hooked up with Jeff Purvis at the finish to pull away

from 7 other drivers in the lead d+aft. A crowd of 55,{)(X) was in attendance for the event

televised nationally by ESPN.

Steele, from Coopersville Michigan, drove his HS Die Ii Dlgineering Ford to a 6. 7
second margin of victory over 2M place Loy Allen Jr. in the Hooters Jasper Powered Ford.

Steele, Loy Allen, Kirk Shelmerdine I Kenny Allen and Mark Thompson all led the race, which
ssw a great battle for the lead thrOU&hout the day. Purvis put forth

valiant effort,

dropping 3 laps behirx.i in his Delco Remy Chevrolet early in the event when he pitted under
green to repair an oil leak. Purvis, the Daytona AReA 200 pole and race winner earlier this

season, made up all 3 laps arxI. was just ahead of Steele on the track, the last car on the
lead lap at the finish. 1990 ARCA Hooters Cup Series champion Bob Brevak was 3rd in the
Scaffidi Mack Ford powered by an Ernie Elliott engine, Kenny Allen brought his ONSAI
Chevrolet heme 4th for his bes t career finish and Mark Thcrupson vas 5th in his Phoenix Air
Ford. 1989 series champ Bob Keselowski and defending cirCUit titlist Bobby Bowsher were 6th
and 7th, with former Richard Childress-Dale Earnhardt crew chief Kirk SheJ.rerdine dropped to

8th with a cut tire on the final lap. Purvis was 9th in his James Finch-CM'led., Gary Balough
crev-chiefed mount, with ARCA Hooters Cup point leader Jeremy Mayfield rounding out the top
10 in the Sadler Racing Shaney' s-Mac Tools-Texaco Chevrolet.
"Wiflling at Talladega, just even racing at Daytona and Talladega, has been a dream
of mine since I was little," said the 25-year-old Steele. "Now that it's reality, it's
great. Grady Hunphries is my crew chief and he knows Davey Allison real well. I talked to
Davey about going WinBton Cup one day. He said
the best wy to get experience
in a Winston
.
.

Cup-type car is to run the AReA Series and then nm a few Busch races throughout the year.
He's been pretty successful, and I respect his opinion a lot. TIlere were so Il'IllI1Y strong cars
today, and I was concerned about Loy Allen and Shelmerdine and a few others. But I hooked up
with Jeff Purvis, who was racing to get back on the lead lap, and we were able to pull away
from the bunch of guys racing for 2rd. They all got side-by-side back there, and they kept
getting smaller in my mirror. Earlier in the race, Wen I got a stop-sm.-go penalty for
speeding on pit road, I just scre\led up. I was hOIiin,g we'd get the break to get back on the
lead lap and we did. 'This is definitely the biggest win of my career. It's just great."
Steele became the first ARCA Hooters Cup Series rookie t o win the Poulan Pro 500k in
t he ll-year history of the event. He collected $16,400 by winning in only his 5th career
ARCA start.

Hln~1es

won the Loctite Research Crew Chief award, snd talladega Pole Award

qualifier Loy Allen picked up the '94 Daytona Challenge bonus. Tim Davis won the . Prestone
Advanced Formula and Hoosier tire Midwest Hard Charger awards, Bob Dotter got Quarter Master
Ccain ' Thru in the Clutch honors and Frank Kinmel's team won the CSR Best Appearing Crew

Bvard. Keselowaki was awarded the Thermo Tec Cool Drive of the race and Shelmerdine was
FlCMllaster ltJfflers Haltvay Leader.
Mayfield leads the ARCA Hooters Cup Series txlint standings sfter the Poulan Pro 500k
with 830, followed by Bowsher 815, Steele 755, Brevak 740 and Keselowski 720.

FLAG SIGNALS
THE GREEN FLAG . . . Here we go
again . This is the starting gun, the openIng whistle, .. the race is on!

THE REO FLAG ... As always, this IS

the danger flag. Just like the red In a stop
sign. it means STOP .. , and right nowl

THE CROSSED FLAGS ... Half way!

Crossed flags tell us that the race is half
over.

THE BLACK FLAG ... This IS the "consultation flag. " ',eUing me to pUlllnlQ the
pits on the next tap

THE BLUE FLAG WITH DIAGONAL

STRIPE ... This IS the " passlng Ilag."
It Indicates that a faster car IS about to
lap me . . . This flag tells me to "hold my
groove" or position on the track until I
am passed.

THE WHITE FLAG ... This one means

Simply "one more lap" .

THE YELLOW FLAG ... This is the

"caution flag." 11 tells me 10 slow down:
to hold our poSition until the green lIag
is thrown again .

THE CHECKERED FLAG ... This IS the

big one, the one we've been wail ing lor
.. it means It'S all over but the shouting. We all want to get under this one
lirSl, bUI of course we can'l all do It. We
keep trying, though. and I guess thaI's
why you keep coming back . Thanks lor
the ride? Oon't mention it , . come
again . And remember, when you drive
your own car. although Ihere are no flag
Signals, keep your eye on those !raff,c
Signs and obey them ... they're tile " flag
Signals of the highways."
