Dear IFIP Friends,

We at the International Funders for Indigenous Peoples wish you and yours a joyous holiday season
and peace in the New Year.
This past year saw IFIP make a big leap forward towards
greater effectiveness as the leading advocate for
Indigenous philanthropy at all levels; from regional
meetings, to funder briefings in partnership with
organizations like Goldman Environmental Prize and
Amazon Conservation Team, to our highly successful
World Summit on Indigenous Philanthropy that brought
nearly 300 funders and Indigenous leaders from around
the world to discuss timely and critical issues. In
addition, as a result of donor requests, IFIP published A
Funders Toolkit: Implementation of the United Nations
Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to guide
partnerships according to this important international
mechanism (please email for a complimentary issue).

IFIP BOARD (L-R): Anne Henshaw, Oak Foundation;

Inlet Tribal Council; Sonja Swift, Swift Foundation;

The Summit was held after the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples and other historical UN
meetings and attracted the largest Planning Committee of any IFIP event, along with the most session
proposals ever received to develop three and a half days of programming. The Summit also served as a
catalyst in bringing Indigenous leaders from 32 countries, otherwise unable to travel, and top notch
performers like Heather Henson and Two Spirits Pow Wow into our circle. We initiated new
relationships with multilateral funders that resulted in a first-ever plenary on how to increase access for
Indigenous communities. We are also proud of coordinating an inaugural event dedicated entirely to
Indigenous women and plan to continue this pioneering work, particularly with Indigenous-led funders
like the International Indigenous Womens Forum (FIMI), to spearhead direct funding for Indigenous
women around the world. Our conference report and evaluation results will be available on our website
soon.
We are in the beginning stages of planning for our regional meetings in 2015 and welcome your input
and support. IFIP will also launch its new website Spring 2015, leveraging our online visibility to
promote our cause and continue the growing movement of Indigenous Philanthropy supporters. We are
also planning to release several new publications, including Where is the Money for Indigenous
Women? a collaboration with AWID and FIMI and Trends of International Indigenous
Philanthropy, a collaboration with the Foundation Center.
In order to continue our work, we need your support. As a member-driven organization, IFIP is only as
strong as your commitment to Indigenous philanthropy. By making IFIP a priority in your funding
decisions, you are guiding the momentum toward this new dynamic in funding, environmental
defense, human rights and climate change policy.

You alone decide whether this unique, effective work will continue. Please back up your commitment
to those on the frontlines of the worlds most important struggles.
Please give an end of year donation that will be matched by
IFIP member, Chimu, the founder of the Inti Raymi Fund.
When you give, you support his commitment to climb Mount
Everest to raise awareness for our cause. Chimu is using the
climb to attract attention to groups, such as IFIP, that he, himself,
has given his financial support. Chimu will personally match any
donation to any group, like IFIP, to up to $5,000 per
organization. Please consider IFIP and our mission in advocating
for international Indigenous philanthropy and donate now. For
more information about the climb, please click here.
In solidarity and respect,

Evelyn Arce
IFIP Executive Director
