A Message from Reverend Lanier. . .

Veterans Day
Today we pause to honor those who served
our nations flag. Thank God for those
who gave their lives that we might be free.
God Bless the retired. Our prayers are with
those who presently serve and especially
those who have been injured or disabled
and struggle with service related issues.
Probably most every family has a
connection to one or more of the branches
of service. My maternal grandfather took
care of horses in World War I. One uncle
survived his ship sinking in the Pacific in
World War II. My wifes father fought the
Japanese in Bougainville; her brother met
the Viet Cong in the 60's. One classmate
walked point in the jungle; another flew as
a door gunner over the jungle. Other
uncles served in the Army, Navy and Coast
Guard. Dads career in the Navy spanned
the Korean War to the Vietnam War.
(Mom had a difficult job too as she made
home after home at new duty stations and
kept us all together while dad served!) I

worked on Naval aircraft stateside in the

70's and one son is presently in the U.S.
Coast Guard. We have a lot to be thankful
for! (I have by the way switched branches.
I have been in the Lords army since 74
and His is truly the Winning Side!) With
all our other friends who served, we salute
you all. To those who serve and those
behind the scenes; the families who bear
much of the burden. God Bless you and
God Bless the United States of America.

The Key to Being an Effective

Witness
Developing Relationships for the
Purpose of Witnessing
By Anthony King
Building relationships is a lost virtue in our
society today. Guys ask girls out on dates
via text messages, we make friends by
clicking a button on a website and hoping
the other person reciprocates, and despite
all of our technological advances, we are
becoming more and more isolated. One of
the funniest examples Ive seen of this

lately is at Wal-Mart, where there were
multiple cashiers with no lines (a miracle at
any Wal-Mart in America), yet there was a
long line of people waiting to use the selfcheckout! They are saying, Id rather wait
longer in line to do it myself than to interact
with another human being. Amazing stuff!
Now, I will confess, I am an introvert by
nature. By nature, that is in my flesh, I
have no desire to talk to or interact with
others. Needless to say, this would limit the
impact that God wants my life to have. Can
you imagine if Jesus had been an introvert?
What if He didnt go out in public because
He didnt want to be bothered. What if He
avoided eye contact with others, so He
wouldnt have to speak to them?
However, when we look at the example laid
out by Jesus in Scripture, we dont have a
lot of excuses for our own shortcomings.
Jesus was a highly relational person. He
was always seeking out others to introduce
Himself, to confront them with truth. If you
and I hope to be effective witnesses, as we
have been commanded to be, we need to be
highly relational, as well. For me, this goes
against every fiber of my being, but,
fortunately, I have a greater desire to be
like Jesus. I cannot hope to make a
difference, to make an impact, if Im not
willing to spend time and resources
developing relationships.
While Jesus spoke to multitudes, He
changed lives one-on-one. The woman at
the wellNicodemus, Zacchaeus, the list
goes on. He spent personal time with them,
developed a relationship and shared truth
with them. Do you have people who youre
working on getting to Jesus? It begins with
developing a relationship. Now, dont get
me wrong, we can give the truth of the
gospel to people with no relationship, but
we place ourselves at a greater advantage
with those we know well.
Who has God put on your heart today?
Reach out! It feels awkward at first,

especially for us introverts, but its worth

it!

These shall make war with the Lamb, and

Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they
that are with him are called, and chosen,
