Program(s)/Tools:
Microsoft Word
Epson Scanner
PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter)
Objectives:
Find, scan, and import a high quality image (mine was aquired
from Seventeen magazine).
Create a full bleed design.
Use textboxes for layout in word.
Insert and edit images in word.
Process:
I edited the image by cropping it, brightening it, and enhancing
it. I created shapes all throughout the image (specifically squares
rectangles and the occasional star). The plaid design I created
through the square and rectangle shapes, layer upon layer. I used
big and bold typography for the title. However for my body copy,
I used a calmer sans serif type for the body copy to make the ad
seem a bit younger.

Photoshop. I was able to learn how to edit more than just a
photo, but an entire photo design.

Canon Powershot Camera
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it
Size and crop image
Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation levels
Use a filter to color a portion of the image
Processes:
For this project, I used the gradient tool to add color and
interest to my background. I enlarged the picture to fit
within the middle. I used the ellipse shape tool to create the
circle color swatches. I used multiple text boxes to create
the diagonal look in the quote. I used minimal stroke to
avoid the color swatches blending into the background. The
swatches were duplicated in order to bring more gestalt to the
overall image.

Program(s)/Tools:
TextWrangler
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Size and optimize an original logo as a png for the webpage.
Write content for webpage.
Design a webpage using HTML and CSS.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Processes:
This was a very long process as I had to use Illustrator,
Photoshop, and TextWrangler to juggle all my content. I
used my logo for the past stationery project to create a
website around. In order to edit the image placements such
as the giant donut background, the Crazy 8 donuts logo, and
even the image saying Taste the Sweet Serendipity (which
I created in Illustrator) I used CSS and the padding code to
arrange it all. I typed all my written content into the HTML.

Adobe InDesign
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a new logo to fit a company.
Design consistant layouts.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign
Processes:
A long process went into the making of this project. I
roughened the edges of the circle to create a pastry like
texture using the distort/transform tool under the effect tab.
I used the pencil tool to create misshapen sprinkles with
rounded edges. I used the paintbrush tool to create the
frosting. I put text on the edge of my donuts in the logo and
positioned them where I figured it would be best readable
using the handlebar tool and pasting an invisible ellipse on
top. I made the large donut on the stationary more opaque
so type would be easily readable.

An inspirational montage made by the blending of two
images, and the use of typography.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn to manage Photoshop layers.
Learn to blend images together smoothly, using mask.
Use filters.
Apply appropriate typography.
Processes:
I used Photoshop to create this design. I used the blur
tool to create the fuzzy background. I then used the
opacity paintbrush tool to bring the laughing girl (my
sister) into focus. She isnt at 100% sharpness as to not
overpower the design. I wrote the words Be Happy
in my notebook, then took a picture to insert into the
design. I faded this image for the montage effect with
the same paintbrush tool.

Objectives:
Set up and align a two sided, folded document.
Learn how to wrap text around an image.
Use paragraph styles in InDesign.
Processes:
For the reindeer logo, I used Illustrator to design it. I used
the pencil tool to sketch out the image on the application.
For the images of the bow, little children, and Santas truck
I used Photoshop to sharpen and clip them all. I used
InDesign to create the rest of the design. I used the text
wrap tool and added anchor points to have the words wrap
around Santas truck. I even downloaded a Christmas font for
free to add a holiday feel. I spent plenty of time on InDesign
aligning all the elements to fold properly.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Keep links intact using a project folder.
Processes:
This is also the first design Ive ever completed using
InDesign. Designing to this scale is no simple task. I worked
on the design for days before it looked the way I wanted to,
and still fit the requirements asked of me. I used a shaping
tool to create a circle image around the young woman to
allow the text to stay on the gray colored rectangle. I then
made the circle shape transparent. For the black boxes, I
added a triangle shape on the edges to create an almost
speech bubble effect.

Three logo variations for a fake company called
Elevate Enterprises.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130, Section 4
Joel Judkins
Objectives:
Create a variety of logos to fit a company.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator.
Processes:
I had never used Illustrator before this project. I learned how
to use the pen tool to trace clip art and create my own vectorized design. I did this with the mountain and bird design.
To created the balloons I edited the dot of the i and added
an ellispse shape. I then created multiple copies of the ballooons, changed their colors, and arranged them. To edit the
text, I created outlines to make the text seem more airy by
lengthening the words.
