Singer/Song-writer

SINGER/SONG-WRITERS:
They are musicians who write, compose and perform their own musical material including lyrics and
melodies. As opposed to contemporary pop singers who write or co-write their own songs; the term
singer/song-writer describes a distinct form of artistry, closely associated with folk- acoustic tradition.

ADELE LAURE BLUE ADKINS: A SINGER/SONGWRITER

Born 5 May 1988 is an English singer-songwriter. Adele was offered a recording contract from XL
Recordings after a friend posted her demo on Myspace in 2006. The next year she received the Brit
Awards "Critics' Choice" award and won the BBC Sound of 2008. Her debut album, 19, was released
in 2008 to commercial and critical success. It certified four times platinum in the UK, and double
platinum in the US. Her career in the US was boosted by a Saturday Night Live appearance in late
2008. At the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, Adele received the awards for Best New Artist and Best
Female Pop Vocal Performance.
ROLLING IN THE DEEP- ADELE:

!
The long shot emphasises the singer's
vulnerability further by highlighting to
the viewer how small she is in
comparison to the room. The fact that
the room is not decorated juxtaposes
what Adele is wearing, this highlights
how exquisite she looks, making her
appear very glamorous.

The video then cross cuts to another
large room full of glasses full of water.
The water then starts rippling to the
beat of the drum, which is very effective
and starts to create the strong
atmosphere that Adele was aiming for,
as it is a song about heart break.

The close up on the glasses

emphasises the effect of the water
further, which matches the beat.
This gives an extremely dramatic
effect, which we hope to create in my
music video.

This scene is extremely interesting as
it shows a dancer moving around
which makes the powder on the
floor fly throughout the room. This
always gives the video an extremely
dramatic feel, as well as giving the
video an artistic edge and makes it
succeed in being a performance
video.

The broken plates symbolises the

singer's broken heart and how she is
currently feeling. The song which I
am using for my music video is very
personal and like 'Rolling in the
Deep,' contains emotive language
which reflects the artist's feelings. I
hope to use different props and ideas
to reflect these feelings in my video.

The fact that the video shows the

plates actually being smashed,
emphasises the artist's anger and
hurt further and makes the
audience question whether or not
it is her throwing the plates.

The scene of the drummer is very

dark at the beginning of the song,
however, towards the climax of the
song a light comes on which
matches the tone of the song. The
use of sudden light has positive
connotations and symbolise the
artist's hope. I also hope to use
lighting techniques in order to
create an effect which reflects my
artist's feelings.

Pyrotechnics are used in the video

at the climax of the song as well.
The use of pyrotechnics connote
danger, which symbolises the
artist's broken heart as reflected in
the lyrics 'the scars of your love.'
However the use of bright light has
connotations of hope which
matches the climax of the song
and the lyrics in the climax, such
as, 'turn my sorrow in to treasured
gold.'

The use of fire in the video has
connotations of danger which
symbolises Adele's pain and
anguish, as well as matching the
first line of the song's lyrics, which
could be a purposeful cyclical
structure. The burning pieces
juxtapose the white blocks which
symbolise city buildings, perhaps
the contrasting objects are
symbolising the artist and her exboyfriend. The white also has
connotations of a fresh, new start.

From the brief analysis above you can see that in order to make music video , there is a lot put into it,
and there is a resin behind every tiny little costume, prop, scene, anything.
