5: Provide extended practice and transfer: (Independent practice of the skill) Time:10
Once all the students have been give a worksheet and are at their desk with only their crayons, a
pencil, and their fish worksheet out I will go over the directions. The students will be expected to
solve all equations and write the answer on the fishs tail before they can move on to coloring the
fish the corresponding color.
6. Assessment / Closure: (How do you evaluate student progress or provide closure to this
lesson?) Time:3 minutes
We will check the worksheet together as a whole class. I will use the document camera to have a
blank worksheet shown so that the students can follow along. This will give the students a
chance to explain how they solved the equation as well as correct any mistakes they may have
made on their worksheet.
7. Plans for differentiation:
The students that are having a difficult time grasping the concept I will have them sit closer to
the teacher so I will be able to provide them with the extra support that they need. I may also
make the equations a bit less complex to that it is easier for them to grasp the concept of taking
away. While working on the worksheet I will have some friends work with the associate so that
she can give them more direct instruction that will help them. I will walk around to monitor the
students work and help those that may need assistance on some of the equations.
