the engine vibration. For m1 = 40 kg, b = 1 m, a = 12 cm, t = 2.5 cm, and
E = 200 GPa, design the absorber for the following requirements:

A hollow steel shaft of outer diameter 6 cm, inner diameter 4.8 cm, and length 80
cm carries a solid disc J1 of diameter 50 cm and mass 60 kg, as shown in Figure
A5-2(a). Due to rotational harmonic loading on the disc, the system experiences
a very large vibration at its natural frequency. To absorb the vibration in the
natural frequency, another hollow steel shaft carrying a solid disc is attached to
the first disc, as shown in Figure A5-2(b).
