Largo tiempo el peruano oprimido
la ominosa cadena arrastr;
condenado a una cruel servidumbre
largo tiempo en silencio gimi.
Mas apenas el grito sagrado
Libertad! En sus costas se oy,
la indolencia de esclavo sacude,
la humillada cerviz levant.

Ya el estruendo de broncas cadenas
que escuchamos tres siglos de horror,
de los libres al grito sagrado
que oy atnito el mundo, ces.
Por doquier San Martn inflamado,
Libertad, libertad, pronunci,
y meciendo su base los Andes
lo anunciaron, tambin a una voz.

Con su influjo los pueblos despiertan
y cual rayo corri la opinin;
desde el itsmo a las tierras del fuego
desde el fuego a la helada regin.
Todos juran romper el enlace
que natura a ambos mundos neg,
y quebrar ese cetro que Espaa,
reclinaba orgullosa en los dos.

Lima, cumple ese voto solemne,
y, severa, su enojo mostr,
al tirano impotente lanzando,
que intentaba alargar su opresin.

A su esfuerzo sellaron los grillos

y los surcos que en s repar,
le atizaron el odio y venganza
que heredara de su Inca y Seor.

Compatriotas, no ms verla esclava
si humillada tres siglos gimi,
para siempre jurmosla libre
manteniendo su propio esplendor.
Nuestros brazos, hasta hoy desarmados
estn siempre cebando el can,
que algn da las playas de Iberia
sentirn de su estruendo el terror.

Excitemos los celos de Espaa
Pues presiente con mengua y furor
Que en concurso de grandes naciones
Nuestra patria entrar en parangn.
En la lista que de stas se forme
Llenaremos primero el regln
Que el tirano ambicioso Iberino,
Que la Amrica toda asol.
Estrofa VII
En su cima los Andes sostengan
la bandera o pendn bicolor,
que a los siglos anuncie el esfuerzo
que ser libres, por siempre nos dio.
A su sombra vivamos tranquilos,
y al nacer por sus cumbres el sol,
renovemos el gran juramento
que rendimos al Dios de Jacob.

EL HIMNO NACIONAL

HIMNO NACIONAL

PRESENTACION

El ser humano desde que nace tiene mltiples derechos

amparados por nuestra constitucin poltica del Per. Uno de
ellos es a tener un nombre propio.

Luego de proclamada la independencia nacional, el general

Jos de San Martn convoc a un concurso pblico para
elegir la Marcha Nacional del Per, convocatoria que fue
publicada el 7 de agosto de 1821 en la Gaceta Ministerial.

Y as como cada uno de nosotros nos identificamos en

cualquier parte de nuestro territorio y del mundo por nuestro
nombre y apellido; nuestro pas tambin se identifica a travs
de los smbolos patrios: bandera, escudo e himno nacional.

En esta convocatoria participaron compositores

aficionados en general, que dirigiran sus producciones.

Estos smbolos que desde su creacin a la actualidad reflejan

nuestras riquezas naturales, la formacin cultural y la lucha
por nuestra independencia.
Prueba de ello, las estrofas del himno son un claro
testimonio del fervor patriota y los ideales emancipatorios de
los peruanos. Motivo por el cual es necesario, conocer cmo
fue su creacin.

El
18 de septiembre, fueron siete las
composiciones que entraron en el concurso,
estas se examinaron y ejecutaron; y la
comisin designo como Marcha Nacional la
del maestro Jos Bernardo Alcedo, cuando el
general Jos de San Martn ponindose de pie
exclam: "Sin disputa, ste es el Himno
Nacional del Per".

El Himno Nacional fue estrenado en la noche

del 23 de septiembre de 1821 en el Teatro de
Lima.
La bella voz de la seora Rosa Merino fue la
primera en entonar la cancin nacional del
Per.
El auditorio, al escuchar la msica y letra del
Himno Nacional, respondi
ponindose de pie.

Esto muestra un compromiso de los peruanos

por la independencia.

Las estrofas originales fueron compuestas por

el poeta iqueo y sanmarquino de la Facultad
de Artes, Jos de la Torre Ugarte.

1.- Con el pasar del tiempo el himno nacional fue

modificndose sutilmente en la letra y la msica, siendo
restaurada y arreglada por Claudio Rebagliati en 1869. Pero
dicha iniciativa, no prosper, tuvo rechazo del pblico, por el
arraigo y el reconocimiento que el tiempo le haba dado,
haciendo de ella una tradicin ya consolidada.
2.- En 1901 hubo un nuevo intento, aprobado por el gobierno
de Lpez de Romaa, para elegir una nueva letra por
considerar la original como agresiva hacia Espaa, (en
aquellos tiempos las relaciones entre ambos pases eran
cordiales). El concurso lo gano Jos Santos Chocano, pero
no pas mucho tiempo para que nuevamente la opinin
pblica reclamara la antigua letra, siendo tanta la presin que
el Congreso peruano en 1913 se vio obligado durante el
gobierno de Billingurst a declarar intangible la letra y
msica del Himno nacional.
3.- El ltimo intento de cambiar el himno fue del gobierno
del general Velasco Alvarado en el que se intent modificar
el segundo y tercer prrafo. Pero este intento tampoco tuvo
xito.
4.- El Tribunal Constitucional determin en junio de 2005
que la primera estrofa del himno merece mantenerse como
intangible. Tambin verific que se haba excluido la quinta
estrofa original del himno y, considerando los Derechos de
autor y la integridad de la obra orden que se restituya dicha
quinta estrofa que, en la versin actual del himno, sera la
sexta estrofa de un total de siete.

PRESENTATION

NATIONAL ANTHEM

The human being since it is born has multiple rights

protected by our political constitution of Peru. One of them
is to having an own name.

After proclaimed the national independence, the general

Jose of St Martin called for a public contest to choose the
National March of Peru, summons that was published on
August 7, 1821 in the Ministerial Gazette. In these
summons composers took part and made keen in general,
that would direct his productions.

And as well as each of us we identify in any part of our

territory and of the world for our name and surname; our
country also is identified across the native symbols: flag,
shield and national anthem.
These symbols that from his creation to the current
importance reflect our natural wealths, the cultural formation
and the fight for our independence.
It tries it, the strophes of the anthem are a clear testimony of
the fervor patriot and the ideal emancipatorios of the
Peruvians. I motivate for which it is necessary, to know how
it was his creation.

On September 18, they were seven the

compositions that entered the contest,
examined and executed these; and the
commission I designate as National March
that of the teacher Jose Bernardo Alcedo,
when the general Jose of St Martin putting of

is the National Anthem of Peru ".

released in the night The soprano. Of
September 23, 1821 in the Theatre of Lima.
The beautiful voice of the lady Rosa Merino
was the first one in intoning the national
song of Peru. The audience, on having
listened to the music and letter of the
National Anthem, answered putting of foot.

commitment of the Peruvians for the
independence. The original strophes were
composed by the poet Iqueo and
Jos de la Torre
Ugarte.

Modifications:
1.-With to happen from the time the national anthem was
modified finely in the letter and the music, being restored
and arranged by Claudio Rebagliati in 1869. But initiatory
happiness, it did not prosper, had rejection of the public,
for the rooting and the recognition that the time had given
him, doing of her an already consolidated tradition.
2.-In 1901 there was a new attempt approved by the
government of Lopez de Romaa, to choose a new letter
for the original one to consider as aggressive towards
Spain, (in those times the relations between both countries
were cordial). The contest I gain it Jose Santos Chocano,
but a lot of time did not happen in order that again the
public opinion was claiming the former letter, being so
many pressure that the Peruvian Congress in 1913 met
obliged during the government of Billinghurst to declare
intangible the letter and music of the national Anthem. 3.The last attempt of changing the anthem belonged to the
government of the general Velasco Alvarado in which one
tried to modify the second and third paragraph. But this
attempt was not successful either.
4.-The Constitutional Court determined in June, 2005 that
the first strophe of the anthem deserves to be kept as
intangible. Also it checked that there had been excluded
the fifth original strophe of the anthem and, considering
the Copyright and the integrity of the work ordered that
there should be returned the fifth above mentioned strophe
that, in the current version of the anthem, would be the
sixth strophe of a total of seven.

Long time the oppressed Peruvian
dragged the ominous chain;
sentenced to a cruel bondage
moaned long time in silence.
But just the sacred cry
Freedom! On its shores was heard,
indolence slave shakes,
the humiliated neck raised.
Strophe II
Now the roar of rough chains
we hear three centuries of horror,
free of the sacred cry
that the world heard astonished, ceased.
Everywhere inflamed San Martn,
Freedom, freedom, delivered,
rocking base and the Andes
was announced, also a voice.
Strophe III
With its influence peoples arouse
like lighting ran and opinion;
from the isthmus to the land of fire
from fire to frost region.
Everyone swears to break the link
that nature denied to both worlds,
and break the scepter that Spain,
Proud reclined in both.
Strophe IV
Lima, fulfilled this solemn vow,
and severe, showed their anger,
impotent tyrant throwing,

who tried to extend their oppression.

A sealed effort crickets
and grooves that repaired itself,
they fueled hatred and revenge
inherited from his Inca and Lord.
Strophe V
Compatriots, it no longer slave
if groaned humiliated three centuries,
may we vow forever free
maintaining its own splendor.
Our arms, until today unarmed
They are always readying the cannon,
that some day the beaches of Iberia
will feel the rumble of his terror.

Arouse the jealousy of Spain
As with senses and furor
That contest of great nations
