Course Text: “Systems Analysis and Design: An Object-Oriented Approach with UML” by Dennis, Wixom, and
Tegarden, Second Edition, John Wiley & Sons, 2002.
Additionally, the library will have Rational Rose® materials. The students may find this useful for doing
their projects.
Course Objective: To provide the student with an in-depth knowledge of object oriented systems analysis and design
procedures. Software project management techniques will be covered. At the end of the course, the student will be able
to analyze business situations and design computer based information systems using object-oriented methodologies.
Course Evaluation:
1. Class Tests (2 * 30 = 60%): There will be two closed book tests. One in the middle of the semester and one at
the end.
2. Group Project (1 * 20 = 30%): Each student is expected to be part of a group project. A group can have a
maximum of four students. There will be two project walkthrough sessions. One will occur during the middle of
the semester, and the other towards the end.
3. Class Participation (10%): Participation in class discussions and cases.
Analysis and Design of information systems is a time consuming activity. Systems analysis requires broad business and
IT knowledge as well as attention to details. Design of a consistent and complete system is a challenging activity.
Consistency among system models will be emphasized throughout the course.
Grading Policy: Grades will be determined based on the individual and class performance.
Scholastic dishonesty: Scholastic dishonesty will be dealt seriously and according to the University policy available at
http://www.utdallas.edu/student/slife/dishonesty.html
