Why Tweet?

I Dont Care What Ashton Kutcher Has To Say.

I once sat at a conference presentation about using technology in the classroom. At the time, I
considered myself pretty "techy" and expected to hear some tools I knew about, but to also learn
new ideas. I remember been absolutely blown away because I had never heard of any of the tools
and apps that he mentioned. Someone with more courage than me said, "How do you find out
about all this stuff?"
The answer? Twitter.
Twitter is a micro-blogging platform. At the heart of
Twitter are small bursts of information called "tweets."
Each Tweet is 140 characters long, but dont let the
small size fool youyou can discover a lot in a little
space. You can see photos, videos and conversations
directly in the Tweets to get the whole story at a glance,
and all in one place.

You dont have to tweet to use

Twitter.
Although many Twitter users post personal messages that might be described as "digital noise"
(such as "Having Chinese takeout for dinner"), teaching professionals have found ways to use
Twitter to share resources and lend quick support to peers with similar interests. For educators who
use this tool to build a network of people whose Twitter messages connect to their work, Twitter
becomes a constant source of new ideas to explore.1

Why Does Sarah Use Twitter?

I now turn to my Twitter
friends for help in the same
way that I turn to the
teachers on my hallway.

The pound sign (or hash) turns any word or group of words that directly follow it into a searchable
link. This allows you to organize content and track discussion topics based on those keywords. So,
if you wanted to read about educational technology, you would search #Edtech. Click on a hashtag
to see all the posts that mention that subject in real time.
