1 SCENARIOS
The critical scenarios that should have been taken into consideration while designing and sizing the
firefighting system for Tank 16 and 19 are:

Fire in Bund
Fire in Tanks
Fire in pump station

In case of Tank 16 and 19, both storing Alcohol, the fire-fighting system should have been designed
according to NFPA 11- Standard for Low, Medium and High Expansion Foam. All the calculations and
figures below are derived from the above mentioned standard.

1.2 WATER FLOW RATE

The total water flow rate that the depot should be able to produce is equal to the water flow rate
required for cooling and the total water flow rate required for the production of premix based on the
worst case scenario.
Total Water required = Total water required for cooling + Total Water required for the production of
premix

1.3 Scenario Description

Scenario 1- Spilled Fire in Bund. When fire is detected within the Bund, all structures within the Bund
boundary should have been part of the protection zone. As a result, the fire protection systems on those
structures will be activated.
Scenario 2 - Fire in Tank 16. When fire is detected in the Tank 16, all structures within the Bund
boundary should have been part of the protection zone. As a result, the fire protection systems on
those structures will be activated.
Scenario 3 - Fire in Tank 19. When fire is detected in the Tank 19, all structures within the Bund
boundary should have been part of the protection zone. As a result, the fire protection systems on
those structures will be activated.

Scenario 2 - Fire in the Pump Station. When fire is detected in the Pump Station, all structures within the
Bund boundary should have been part of the protection zone. As a result, the fire protection systems on
those structures will be activated.
