Standard items:

pens (black/blue preferred), pencils (including coloured), sharpener,


correction tape/fluid, eraser, ruler, highlighters

Special items:

print English language dictionary or a print English language learning


dictionary. No electronic dictionary or thesaurus is allowed. Dictionaries
used in the preparation room must not contain any notes or other marks.
Dictionaries are not permitted in the interview room.

Important note to candidates


No other items may be taken into the examination room. It is your responsibility to ensure that
you do not have any unauthorised notes or other items of a non-personal nature in the
examination room. If you have any unauthorised material with you, hand it to the supervisor
before reading any further.

STAGE 3

Structure of the examination


Stage 3 of the English as an Additional Language or Dialect WACE examination comprises a
written examination worth 75% of the total examination score and a practical (oral) examination
worth 25% of the total examination score.

Instructions to candidates
During the preparation time
1.

Prepare your responses to the visual stimulus item and focus questions and make notes
on the page provided in this booklet.

During the interview


1.

Participate in an introductory discussion with the marker.

2.

Talk about the visual stimulus item and chosen focus questions. You must aim to talk for
approximately three minutes.

3.

Do not read from your notes.

4.

Respond to an unseen question related to the visual stimulus item and focus questions.

5.

Nominate issues/topics related to the focus and content of each of the Stage 3 units.

6.

Participate in a conversation with the marker about the nominated issues/topics,


providing examples from texts you have studied.
