[He’s Really Cute]
Mod Beanie
Beanies are all the rage, and if your new boyfriend likes to make a fashion
statement, this will do the trick. The beanie is knitted in the current no-cuff style in oh-so-mod
colors, but the best thing about it is that it’s oh-so-simple to make. In fact, it’s safe to knit this
cap early on in the relationship.
To work Garter Stitch in the round, knit one row and purl the next.
The beanie has a decorative eight-point swirling decrease at the top.

Next Rounds Work CB in Garter Stitch for 1.5" (3 cm).

Next Rounds Work CC in Garter Stitch for 1.5" (3 cm).

Next Rounds Work CA in Garter Stitch for 1.5" (3 cm).

Decreasing for Crown

Set Up Change to CB. Note: Always decrease on knit rounds.

Round 1 (Knit Round) *K2tog, K11; repeat from * to end of round. You have just
decreased 8 stitches (2 decreased on each needle).

Round 2 and all even-numbered rounds Work in Garter Stitch (purl).

round 3 *K2tog, K10; repeat from * to end of round.

round 5 *K2tog, K9; repeat from * to end of round.

Rounds 7–24 Continue as established, knitting one fewer stitch between decreases
and working one purl round between decrease rounds, changing to CC after CB
stripe is 1.5" (3 cm) wide. You now have 8 stitches (2 on each needle).

Finishing
Cut working yarn, leaving a 10" (25 cm) tail. Thread tail onto tapestry needle. Pull
needle through all remaining stitches, drawstring-fashion, then pass through these
stitches once again, draw up tight, and fasten off to close top of beanie. Weave in
ends. Beanie
