Dear Dr. Garnace,
Greetings!
As we commemorate the events of Super Typhoon Yolanda, the Local Government
Unit of Palo under the active and dynamic leadership of Hon. Remedios Matin L. Petilla,
and the Palo Cultural and the Arts Organization conceptualized an activity that will assist in
the social recovery and strengthen the resiliency of the community. The activity is dubbed
as Estorya Festival: Honoring the Palo Peoples Spirit of Resilience.
Aligned with the Filipino culture and tradition of honoring our dearly departed, the
festival shall commence with a novena to be said in the late afternoon in respect of those
who perished in the typhoon and also as a thanksgiving for the fruitful rebuilding of the
town of Palo. After the novena, different thematic performances will be showcased each
night. The nightly presentations are as follows:
1.) Night of Songs and Praise (Music by local Choirs and Music Groups);
2.) Night of Cinema Resiliency;
3.) Night of Poetry;
4.) Night of dances for healing;
5.) Night of Acoustic Remembering;
6.) Night of Visual Images;
7.) Night of Resiliency Drama;
8.) Night of Healing Lights;
9.) Night of Musicale Drama (collaborative performances).
From the name itself, the festival will be based upon the told and untold stories of
heroism, faith in God and the resilience of the Paloanos during the onslaught of the worlds
strongest typhoon ever to hit land. These stories will be transformed into creative
presentations- theatre play, interpretative dance, siday, songs, komiks, puppetry, photos
and art exhibit.
Aside from the thematic performances, the festival will also focus on the
enhancement and development of the youth of Palo through the conduct of workshops that
will concentrate on the releases of inner self, improvisation, exploration, creativity and
discovery, to wit: a.) Siday Poetry Workshop; b). Visual Arts Workshop; c.) Video and
Photography Workshop; d.) Song Composition Workshop; e.) Dance Theater Workshop; and
f.) Shadow Puppetry Workshop. There will be 30 trainees for each workshop who will in
turn be the performers for the nightly thematic performances.
In this regard, we would like to invite your students to be part of the Estorya
Festival Workshop on Siday Peotry, Visual Arts, Video and Photography, Song
