1. Introduction:
In the simple sense, human resource management means employing people, developing their
resources, utilizing, maintaining and compensating their services in tune with the job and
organization, individual and the society. Human resources management (HRM) can be defined as
managing (planning, organizing, directing and controlling) the functions of employing, developing
and compensating human resources resulting in the creation and development of human
relations with a view to contribute proportionately (due to them) to the organizational individual
and social goals. Psychologists are concerned with the theoretical considerations of accident
causation and the research into the accident control, through proper selection, training and
education of the employee, and the social and psychological factors that influence the individuals
behavior in general. Engineers and safety officers usually render necessary practical advice on
certain aspects in the industry. They look upon prevention of accidents basically as an
engineering problem to be tackled through proper designing of mechanical safety devices. In fact,
health and safety are interrelated and, therefore, require a multi-dimensional approach. Its
importance has increased because of large-scale industrialization in which human beings are
subject to mechanical, chemical, electrical and radiation hazards.
According to the data of the Council of Labor Affairs, the disabling injury frequency and severity of
domestic transport, storage and the communication industry in 2006 to 2008 was higher than
the manufacturing industry and all industries. As the telecommunications industry is part of the
transport, storage and communication industry, the potentially hazardous factors in the workplace
of the telecommunications industry may not be lower than the workplace of the general industry, it
is worthy for safety managers to attach great importance to.

make use of high speed internet and data services throughout the cellular network. The company
also emphasizes good customer service and is well represented in the market through service
desks and Grameenphone Centers. The company currently employs around 5000 people in
different parts of Bangladesh. In 2008 Cell Bazaar, an innovative new service from
Grameenphone which let users trade basic goods from their cellular phones was voted Asian
Telecom Innovation of the Year in the Telecom Asia Awards 2008. (Facebook, 2010)
1.2. OBJECTIVE:
Like every project and report this report too has its objectives. Our first and one of the most
important objectives is to find the positive and negative issue about health and hygiene factors in
Grameen phone. This is a new topic which many of us are not quite familiar with, and is getting a
lot of recognition importance these days especially considering the intense competitiveness and
uncertainty of the work environment. It is very imperative of us to know as to what is the condition
of workplace is and is the workplace is good for health or not. Employees mind and health is very
important for the company because the total productivity of any company depend on the
employees. So todays most of the companies are very aware about their employees health as
well as mind. Even the companies also take care about the family and all about the employees as
employee can give proper concentration towards the company. So our main objective it to
analyses the Grameen phone and find how much this company care about their employees.
1.3. Scope:
Our main scope of the project is to find out the student of North South University viewpoints and
attitude over Health and hygiene factors in workplace and its implication.
1.4. Methodology:
For the methodology for our project we have interviewed Musfiqul Salekin the HR manager of
Grameen phone call center department. His interview is our primary source and our project highly
depends on this source. It was through his insights and HR expertise we were better able to
understand the situation of health and hygiene factors in the organization. During the interview we
were also introduced to three officials/staff whose viewpoints too were of great help to the project.
For a better understanding and to locate common grounds we had an informal chat through the
phone with a reporter who is a cousin of a friend of ours from a competitor of Grameen phone
(Bangla link). We are not only depend on this manager but also get a lots of information from one
of our group mate Maruf Ahmed Rafi who is the current employee of Grameen phone as we can
get the proper condition of Grameen Phone. Beside this we get information from my other friend
and senior brothers who are currently involve with Grameen phone. Beside this we get
Page 4
information from different websites specially the website of Grameen phone and different
websites of social media and from different blogs also from other sites. To give our work more
credibility we developed a questionnaire for the university students of a sample size of 50. The
sample sizes were mostly students who were in their final year before graduation. We made
questionnaire for the university students because after all it is these students who are going to
enter the job the market soon, and as mentioned earlier that it is the youths that are entering the
job market these days and so it would be very helpful to know about the importance of health
factors of any organization and how a sound health and mind helps at workplace. Another source
of work includes cases and researches on the given topic obtained through our faculty and also
through websites which have been which have been helpful to the working of our project.
2. Literature Review:
2.1. Definition:
Trying to gather some theoretical data on our research topics, we found the following definitions
online:
Employee health is the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and
social well-being of workers in all occupations by preventing departures from health, controlling
risks and the adaptation of work to people, and people to their jobs. (ILO/WHO, 1950)
The factor that is considered as the extrinsic condition which motivates employees to perform
their best and feel committed towards their works is considered as employee hygiene.
(Management Study Guide, 1980)
Let us explore a broader definition. University of Virginia Health System writes:
Employee Health is the gatekeeper that ensures that all employees who work at the Health
System have completed the required health assessment prior to reporting to their units. This
important process helps ensure that employees are free of communicable disease and other
health issues. (University of Virginia, 2002)
2.2. Interpretation
It is clear from the above that health and hygiene are interlinked,
And consistent development in both areas for employees will enable an organization to make
greater strides in productivity and profitability.
Significant development is needed in the Health and Hygiene sector as we are dealing with a big
organization. The consideration of health and hygiene factors will help the organization improve
the efficiency of the employees and increase their productivity. Health and hygiene affect the
employee work output as their productivity depends on their health and physical ability.

problem on those washroom. Some time there is no water at all. Sometime dirty
water comes from water line. Some water tapes never work properly. Some
Commode flash is not work properly and water come out by the water pipe
because of lick on the pipe line. Washroom mirrors are also broken which can
be fall from wall any time by which any one can injured very badly. There is no
hand wash soap to wash hand after using toilet, because of cleaners do not
clean those toilets in time bad small all ways come from the washroom. So this
is too much unhealthy and unhygienic for employee. From this unhealthy washroom employees
can gat dangerous diseases and get sick badly.

5.0 Analysis:
After analyzing the survey we can understand that Grameenphone only take care about their
high level managers. They care a very little about their mid-level and low level employees. But
the total field works are normally done by mid and lower level employees. But grameenphone
are not aware about their these types of employees. When we ask about this to the HR manager
he appreciates us and shows us some reason. Grameenphone want to cut their cost. For that
reason they expense little about their mid and lower level employees. Said by the HR Manager
of GrameenPhone. Even they are not using paper at their office except electronic devices for
this reason. These types of lots of initiative they took to reduce their cost. But by using this
theory Grameenphone lose their active employees and made a bad feeling to their employees
mind. Employees are not feels like before. Top level managers are okay with this because they
get very good facilities with cut their costs. But different types of problems found in mid and
lower level employees. When we ask about one Grameenphone employees working in Team
leader in NNT , the told us Previous we all like to work with Grammenphone and this types of
job was golden egg to us, but now we all leave this job for their lower service to their
employees. From this statement it is clear that employees are very much dissatisfied to their
organization what really effect to the company.
6. Recommendation:
From our survey we can recommend some vital things to Grameenphone. First of all they are
very much care about their top level managers and that is very much necessary. So we
appreciate this service. But mid-level manager and the lower level employees are directly
involved with work. So it is very much necessary to take care about their physical and mental
condition. Because these employees mental and physical condition make the main efficiency of
this organization. If these employees are feeling bad and they feel sick and give the customers
bad service then the reputation of Grameenhone decrease. In this way Grameenphone may lose
their efficiency and good reputation as well as loyalty. So our recommendation is the top level
manager should cut their cost by using new technology and different way not giving bad service
to their employees.
7. FUTURE RESEARCH
Due to unexpected situation in our country, mostly HORTAL makes our ability to do more
research of health and hygiene factor in this multinational very limited. But if we could use our
maximum time, we could have brought some more output to make our research up to the mark.
But definitely, we can do much better in our research. We just surveyed only on GPHOUSE
Bashundhara and NNT (Nitol Niloy Tower) due to the strike. Otherwise, we can survey all of the
GP outlets and office. In future, we have a plan to do more research in all of GPs offices and
outlets, if we find such opportunity.
Page 12
8. LIMITATION
There are several limitations that we face in our survey due to strike. There are some lacking due
to unavailable data or resource from HR manager due to high confidential matter about
Grameenphone. And one of our group members who is currently working in GP tried his level
best find out the actual data analysis but he do not have every level of access to collect all the
actual data.
9. Conclusion:
After the whole study of the Effectiveness of Health, Safety towards the employees ,the
conclusion arrived at is that the avoidance of accidents together with ensuring the Health and
Safety of the employees is one of the integral and important element that ensures development in
the competence of the workforce, growth in the production and increase in Industrial production.
The benefits of prioritizing the Health and Safety measures in the company are immense and can
be used to reinforce the fundamental Industry values. Grameen phone should take dedication to
implement the labour laws and regulations regarding occupational health and safety in work place
to promote the employees welfare within the company to archive success, this will improved
satisfaction level of the employees regarding occupational health and safety on job and an
improved overall job satisfaction. Every organization should promote safety and health
management- formulation of safety and health policy, formulation of separate safety cell, safety
instruction and training, safety audit, regular testing and certification by chemical and
metallurgical testing centre, introduction of safety permit system in some areas specially in case
of contractual labors. To conclude the company should have given maximum effort and
dedication to implement the labour laws and implementing effective safety and health
management considering the type of safety and health problems, accidents, employees and
technology in its organizational settings and also good level of satisfaction among employees
regarding healthy and safety has been achieved.
