PRESENTACIN

PRESENTATION

Fernando Alonso se subi a su primer monoplaza con

tan solo 3 aos. Se trataba de un kart construido por
su padre al que tuvieron que adaptarle los pedales
para que el nio pudiese manejarlo. Aos despus, el
asturiano se convirti en el primer espaol ganador
de un Gran Premio, en el piloto con ms puntos de la
historia y en doble Campen del Mundo de Frmula 1.
Un hito del deporte cuyos valores de esfuerzo,
humildad y pasin le han hecho ganarse la admiracin
internacional dentro y fuera del circuito.

Fernando Alonso climbed into his first single-seater

when he was just three years old. His father built him
a kart and they had to adapt the pedals so that the
kid could drive it. Years later the Asturian went on to
become the first ever Spaniard to win a Grand Prix, the
driver that has notched up more points than anyone
else in history, and a two-times Formula 1 World
Champion. A sporting legend whose values of hard
work, humility and passion have helped him win a host
of international admirers both inside and outside the
circuit.

Alonso quieren dar a conocer la dimensin de esta
gran figura del deporte espaol a travs de una
exposicin nica en el mundo.
Por primera vez se renen los coches con los que el
piloto asturiano ha competido, desde aquel primer
kart con el que empez todo hasta uno de sus ltimos
Ferrari. La espectacular muestra de monoplazas se
completa con otros objetos como cascos, monos y
botas.
Tambin tiene un especial protagonismo la coleccin
de trofeos, entre los que destacan el obtenido en
su primera carrera en Ribadesella 1984, los del
Campeonato del Mundo 2005 y 2006, los dos
subcampeonatos mundiales 2010 y 2012, el tercer
clasificado en 2007, el premio Prncipe de Asturias
2005, la medalla del Comit Olmpico Espaol 2006 o
el premio de la Comunidad de Madrid 2011, entre otros.
Una seleccin de ms de 270 piezas que transmite a
la perfeccin los momentos clave de una trayectoria
nica.
Instalaciones interactivas, audiovisuales de gran
formato y actividades paralelas sirven para poner
de relieve la importancia del mejor piloto espaol
de todos los tiempos, as como de la Frmula 1, un
espectculo lleno emocin.

Alonso have decided to organise a unique, world-class
exhibition to honour the true dimension of this leading
figure in Spanish sport.
For the first time ever, all the cars the Asturian driver
has ever raced will be brought together under one
roof, from that first kart that he began with as a child,
to one of his latest Ferraris. The spectacular exhibition
of single-seater racing cars is complemented by other
objects such as helmets, racing suits and boots.
Pride of place will also be given to his collection of
trophies, among which special mention should be made
of the one he earned in his first ever race in Ribadesella
in 1984, the 2005 and 2006 World Championships, his
two World sub-championships in 2010 and 2012, his
third-place trophy from 2007, the 2005 Prince of
Asturias Prize, the 2006 Spanish Olympic Committee
medal, and the 2011 Community of Madrid prize, among
others.
A selection of more than 270 objects that serve to
communicate quite perfectly the key moments of a
unique career.
Interactive installations, large-format audio-visuals and
parallel activities highlight the importance of Spains
best-ever driver, and also that of Formula 1 itself, a
spectacle brimming with excitement.

La idea central de la propuesta consiste en la creacin

de un potente espacio que, a modo de lnea de
tiempo, expone los monoplazas de las escuderas
Minardi, Renault, McLaren y Ferrari con los que el
piloto asturiano ha competido desde su debut en la
Frmula 1. Un eje temporal en el que los coches estn
presentados cronolgicamente partiendo del primer
frmula de promocin utilizado en 1999.

The central idea behind the proposal was to create

a powerful space in which, by way of a timeline, to
show off the single-seaters from the different teams Minardi, Renault, McLaren and Ferrari, with which the
Asturian driver has competed since he first made his
Formula 1 debut. A walk through time, in which the cars
are presented chronologically, starting with the first
promotional Formula car he drove in 1999.

La exposicin se divide en seis mbitos temticos:

Km 0, La coleccin, Circuito Alo, Start
your engines!, F1 experiences y 275.000 km
de emocin. La singular arquitectura del Centro
de Exposiciones Arte Canal Madrid contribuye a
recrear un espacio que sumerge al visitante en una
experiencia nica y sorprendente.

The exhibition is divided into six themed areas: Km 0,

The collection, Alo track, Start your engines!,
F1 experiences and 275,000 km of sensation. The
outstanding architecture of the Centro de Exposiciones
Arte Canal Madrid contributes towards recreating a
space in which the visitor is immersed in a unique and
surprising experience.

Los seis mbitos se agrupan en tres grandes reas

expositivas. La primera est formada por la lnea de
tiempo que dibujan los monoplazas, la zona Km 0 y
la gran mesa multimedia. La segunda la integran dos
emocionantes audiovisuales que flanquean la sala. Y
la tercera cierra el espacio expositivo con diversos
mdulos experienciales y una serie de instalaciones
participativas. El recorrido finaliza con un mosaico de
gran formato integrado por centenares de fotografas
enviadas por aficionados del piloto.

The six areas are grouped into three main exhibition

spaces. The first is formed by the timeline laid down
by the single-seater racing cars, the Km 0 zone, and
the large multimedia table. The second comprises
two exciting audiovisuals which flank the room. And
the third space, which brings the exhibition to an end,
features various experiential modules and a series
of hands-on installations. The tour ends with a giant
mosaic made from hundreds of photographs sent in by
fans of the driver.

La intencin es plasmar todos los elementos que

hacen de Fernando Alonso una figura tan admirada
y especial para nuestro pas. Un deportista que
transmite valores, que tiene talento, que ha cosechado
un reconocimiento internacional de primer nivel y que
pone a disposicin de todos una coleccin de piezas
absolutamente extraordinaria.

The intention is to capture all the elements that make

Fernando Alonso so admired and such a special figure
for our country. A sportsman who transmits values, who
is talented, who has garnered international recognition
at the highest level, and who has made an absolutely
extraordinary collection of artefacts available for all to
enjoy.

La mayora de los pilotos de Frmula 1 tienen sus races
deportivas en el mundo del karting, y Fernando Alonso
no es una excepcin. Su precoz carrera se inici a los tres
aos de edad, al volante de un kart construido por su
padre y enfundado en un mono cosido por su madre.

Area 1. KM 0
The roots of the majority of Formula 1 racing drivers can
be found in the world of karting, and Fernando Alonso is
no exception. His early career began at the age of three,
behind the wheel of a kart that his father had built for him
and tucked into a racing suit that his mother had made.

El mbito 1 de la exposicin es un espacio dedicado a los

primeros aos de competicin del piloto asturiano. Se
exponen monos, cascos y una instalacin con los karts
que le acompaaron en su infancia. Un recorrido desde los
humildes orgenes del deportista hasta su entrada en las
frmulas de promocin.

Area 1 of the exhibition is a space dedicated to the early

in which the Asturian driver first began to take part in
competitions. Visitors can see racing suits, helmets and an
installation featuring the karts he used to race as a child. A
tour through the sportsmans modest origins to when he
began to take part in the promotion formulas.

mbito 2. LA COLECCIN
El esfuerzo y la constancia del deportista espaol dieron
sus frutos en 1999, cuando se le ofreci la posibilidad de
demostrar su talento en la Frmula Nissan. Tras dos aos
compitiendo en series cada vez ms cercanas a la categora
reina, logr debutar profesionalmente en la Frmula 1.

Area 2. THE COLLECTION

The Spanish sportsman gathered the first fruits of all his
effort and determination in 1999, when he was offered
the possibility of demonstrating his talent in the Formula
Nissan series. After two years competing in series that
were coming closer and closer to the premier class, he
finally made his professional debut in Formula 1.

La coleccin es la historia deportiva de Fernando

Alonso a partir de sus objetos. Se renen en primicia los
monoplazas de las escuderas Minardi, Renault, McLaren y
Ferrari con los que el piloto ha competido desde sus inicios
en la Frmula 1. La espectacular coleccin de vehculos
est presentada de manera cronolgica y se complementa
con una gran vitrina que recoge piezas significativas como
trofeos, guantes, botas y cascos. El eje expositivo culmina
con piezas de la ltima temporada 2013 y podra ampliarse
con nuevas incorporaciones.

The collection is the sporting history of Fernando Alonso

seen through his own artefacts. For the first time ever, all
the single-seaters of the teams - Minardi, Renault, McLaren
and Ferrari - for which the driver has competed ever since
his early years in Formula 1 are brought together under one
roof. The spectacular collection of vehicles is presented
chronologically and rounded off by a large showcase that
features important articles such as trophies, gloves, boots
and helmets. This section of the exhibition ends with
artefacts from this last 2013 season, and new elements
may well be added.

valores como persona y como deportista. El talento, el
esfuerzo, la humildad y la capacidad de superacin le

Fernando Alonsos career is based on his values as a human
being, and as a sportsman. Talent, hard work, humility and
the ability to overcome challenges have been with him
from the outset. A person who is loved and respected both
on and off the track.

En la gran mesa interactiva Circuito Alo se puede

consultar con todo detalle el palmars deportivo de
campeonatos de karts, frmulas de promocin y Frmula 1,
pero tambin se hace hincapi en la doble dimensin
del piloto. Adems de sus cifras deportivas se muestra
una impresionante preparacin fsica que revela datos
sorprendentes, un lbum fotogrfico con la faceta ms
personal del deportista y el valor de un equipo con el que
Fernando Alonso comparte sus xitos.

The large interactive Alo track table allows visitors

to make in-depth queries into Fernando Alonsos track
record throughout the kart championships, the promotion
formulas and Formula 1, but it also highlights the twin
dimension of the driver. As well as the array of sporting
data, we can also appreciate the impressive physical
training that is required and which throws up lots of
surprising facts, a photograph album that shows the most
personal side of the sportsman and the importance of the
team with which Fernando Alonso shares his successes.

Ever since the Asturian driver began to win his first prizes,
our countrys enthusiasm for Formula 1 has never ceased
to grow. Start your engines! is an immersive experience
which manages to recreate the passion of a live race as it
happens.

A travs de un tnel audiovisual con proyecciones

multipantalla a ambos lados de la sala, el visitante se
ve envuelto por el ritmo y la emocin trepidantes del
sonido y la velocidad. Una impactante instalacin de
gran formato que demuestra por qu la Frmula 1 est
considerada como uno de los mayores espectculos del
mundo.

Walking through an audio-visual tunnel with multi-screen

projectors at both sides of the room, the visitor is totally
captivated by the thrilling rhythm and excitement of the
sounds and the speed. A stunning large-format installation
that shows why Formula 1 is considered one of the worlds
leading spectacles.

La Frmula 1 es un universo donde la innovacin y la
logstica estn en constante evolucin. No es de extraar
que muchos de sus aspectos resulten desconocidos e

Formula 1 is a universe in which innovation and logistics are
in constant evolution. It is no surprise that many aspects of
Formula 1 are unknown and indeed a mystery in the eyes of
its followers.

F1 Experiences engloba una serie de instalaciones

participativas que permiten acercarse a algunos de los
elementos ms espectaculares de este deporte. El volante
de un monoplaza, la aerodinmica, la seguridad durante
la carrera y el motor de un F1 se renen en un espacio que
permite descubrir de cerca el mundo de la Frmula 1.

F1 Experiences encompasses a series of hands-on

installations that allow visitors to get close to some of this
sports most spectacular aspects. The steering wheel of a
racing car, aerodynamics, safety during the race and an F1
engine, all together in a space that allows visitors to really
get up close to the world of Formula 1.

La crnica deportiva del corredor asturiano est llena de
momentos emocionantes. Sus prometedores inicios en
el karting dejaron claro que se trataba de un campen
nato. Aos despus empez a batir rcords y ni siquiera
accidentes como el sufrido en Brasil en 2003 lograron
aplacar su nimo.

Area 6. 275,000 KM OF SENSATION

The sporting chronicle of Asturias famous driver is full
of exciting moments. His promising beginnings in the
karting world made it clear that here was a born champion.
Some years later he began to beat records and not even
accidents such as the one he suffered in Brazil in 2003
managed to dampen his ardour.

El ltimo mbito de la exposicin es un emotivo

recorrido por algunos de los instantes que tanto han
hecho vibrar a sus seguidores. A travs de su propio
testimonio, Fernando Alonso reflexiona sobre su historia.
Un audiovisual en el que el piloto relata algunos de los
momentos ms destacados de su trayectoria.

The final area of the exhibition is an emotional tour through

some of the moments that made his followers quiver with
excitement. In his own words, Fernando Alonso looks
back over his career. An audio-visual in which the driver
talks about some of the most outstanding moments of his
career.

TALLERES DIDCTICOS

EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS

Como complemento a Fernando Alonso Collection,

el Centro de Exposiciones Arte Canal pone a
disposicin de los usuarios 4 talleres didcticos para
que los nios puedan realizar actividades en la sala. Se
trata de actividades gratuitas dirigidas al pblico infantil
y escolar entre los 3 y los 12 aos. Tienen una duracin
aproximada de 20 minutos y estn programadas para
los fines de semana, viernes por la tarde, festivos y
vsperas de festivos, adems de periodos vacacionales
de Navidad y Semana Santa. Para facilitar la
comprensin de las materias, los talleres se dividen en
3 grupos de edad: 3-5 aos, 6-8 aos y 9-12 aos.

To round off the Fernando Alonso Collection, the Centro

de Exposiciones Arte Canal has devised 4 educational
workshops so that children can have lots to things to do to
keep them busy in the exhibition room. The activities are
free of charge and are aimed at youngsters and children
between the ages of 3 and 12. They last approximately 20
minutes and take place at weekends, on Friday evenings,
the day before a public holiday and the holiday itself, and
throughout the Christmas and Easter holiday periods. To
ensure the children understand all the different topics, the
workshops are divided into 3 age groups: 3 to 5, 6 to 8
and 9 to 12 years-of-age.

TALLER 1: EXPERIMENTACIN

WORKSHOP 1: EXPERIMENTATION

El taller se convertir en un laboratorio en el que se

demostrar la proximidad entre el complejo mundo de
la Frmula 1 y el da a da de los nios. Se ensearn
palabras tcnicas, como caucho, nailon, polister,
fibras sintticas o polietileno de un modo muy sencillo.
Tambin se mostrarn los equipamientos de la Frmula 1.
Es una actividad muy didctica y dinmica.

The workshop will turn into a laboratory that will show

children how close the complex world of Formula 1
really is to their own day-to-day lives. They will be
taught technical words such as rubber, nylon, polyester,
synthetic fibres or polyethylene in a very simple way.
They will also be shown equipment that is used in
Formula 1. It is a highly educational and dynamic activity.

Acercar a los participantes a la utilizacin de un
lenguaje cientfico.
Impulsar el trabajo en equipo.
Motivar el aprendizaje cientfico.
Promover la experimentacin y la observacin.

TALLER 2: EDUCACIN VIAL

WORKSHOP 2: ROAD EDUCATION

Los participantes se dividirn en grupos y debern

colocar las seales de trfico y los semforos en una
calle imaginaria. A travs de este taller los participantes
aprendern las normas bsicas de educacin vial de
una forma divertida y participativa, y se fomentar el
trabajo en equipo.

The participants will be divided into groups and will have

to set out traffic signs and traffic lights on an imaginary
street. Participants in this workshop will learn the basics
of road education in a fun and participatory way, and the
teams will be encouraged to put effort into what they do.

Introducir a los participantes en la educacin vial.
Fomentar el trabajo en equipo y la participacin.
Familiarizarse con las seales de trfico.
Conocer cmo comportarse adecuadamente en una
va pblica.

A travs de este taller los participantes podrn

entender cules son los buenos hbitos que les pueden
convertir en grandes deportistas: una dieta saludable y
la prctica diaria de ejercicio. Se trata de una actividad
muy participativa en la que los nios realizarn un gran
puzle como punto final.

The participants will find out about the good habits

that can help them become outstanding sportsmen and
women: a healthy diet and a daily exercise routine.
At the end of this very participatory activity, the children
will have to solve a giant puzzle.

Mostrar la importancia de una alimentacin
equilibrada, los buenos hbitos y la actividad fsica.
Adquirir costumbres saludables.
Diferenciar entre sedentarismo y actividad fsica.
Analizar los hbitos saludables de un deportista.
Fomentar la participacin de los alumnos.

A partir de la decoracin de cascos o del diseo

de su propio coche, los pequeos desarrollarn su
creatividad. Todos los materiales estarn adaptados a
su edad, y se les motivar a descubrir y experimentar

El Centro de Exposiciones Arte Canal Madrid se

inaugur en noviembre de 2004 con la exposicin
Guerreros de Xian que fue visitada por 435.000
personas en poco menos de tres meses.

The Centro de Exposiciones Arte Canal Madrid was

inaugurated in November 2004 with the exhibition
Warriors of Xian, which attracted more than 435,000
visitors in a little under three months.

Tras ella, la entidad ha programado otras exposiciones

con tan buena acogida de crtica y pblico como la
primera. As, los madrileos han podido disfrutar de
las muestras: Faran, M.C. Escher. El arte de lo
imposible, Roma SPQR, Madrid, 2 de mayo
1808-2008, Star Wars, The exhibition, Tesoros de
las culturas del mundo, Alejandro Magno. Encuentro
con Oriente, Da Vinci. El Genio o Pompeya,
catstrofe bajo el Vesubio. Con ellas, la sala del Centro
de Exposiciones Arte Canal Madrid ha conseguido
cerca de tres millones de visitantes.

Following that first exhibition, the entity has put on

other exhibitions which have met with the approval of
critics and public alike. The Madrid public has been able
to enjoy the exhibitions: Pharaoh, M.C. Escher. The
art of the impossible, Rome SPQR, Madrid, 2 May
1808-2008, Star Wars, The exhibition, Treasures
of the cultures of the world, Alexander the Great. An
Encounter with the East , Da Vinci. The Genius or
Pompeii: disaster under Vesuvius. Altogether, almost
three million visitors have graced the halls of the Centro
de Exposiciones Arte Canal Madrid.

La sala ocupa la mitad de uno de los cuatro mdulos

del cuarto depsito enterrado de Canal de Isabel II
Gestin. Una estructura de la primera mitad del siglo XX
con capacidad para 141.000 metros cbicos de agua.
Situada a 9 metros de profundidad con respecto al
parque Cuarto Depsito, tiene una superficie de ms
de 4700 metros cuadrados y la planta baja de 3500
metros cuadrados, de los cuales ms de 2000 metros
cuadrados corresponden al rea expositiva.

The hall occupies half of one of the four modules of

the fourth underground deposit of Canal de Isabel II
Gestin. A structure from the first half of the 20th
century which was able to hold 141,000 cubic meters
of water. Situated 9 metres below the Cuarto Depsito
park, it has a total surface area of more than 4700
square metres. The ground floor occupies 3000 square
metres, of which more than 2000 are given over to the
exhibition area.

Este centro de exposiciones fue acondicionado

espetando al mximo la construccin original, similar
a los antiguos aljibes romanos y rabes. De hecho,
conserva las arcadas del antiguo depsito que le
proporcionan el aspecto de una enorme mezquita, con
un total de 144 arcos de ms de 7,5 metros de altura.

When this exhibition centre was refurbished the

greatest possible care was taken to respect the original
construction which is similar to the ancient Roman and
Arab water deposits or aljibes. It does in fact preserve
the arches of the old deposit which made it look like an
enormous mosque, with a total of 144 arches each more
than 7.5 metres tall.

La Fundacin Fernando Alonso nace con el objetivo

de promover, participar, estimular, intervenir y
desarrollar iniciativas para la seguridad vial tanto de
carcter cultural como de investigacin y preparacin
profesional y tcnica de las jvenes generaciones. En
especial, persigue la educacin y formacin de nios
en aspectos relacionados con la seguridad vial.

The Fundacin Fernando Alonso was born from the

desire to promote, participate, stimulate, take part and
develop initiatives in road safety both from a cultural
viewpoint and in terms of research and the professional
and technical training of our younger generations. In
particular, it pursues educational ends, aiming to train
children in all aspects of road safety.

Del mismo modo, pretende apoyar y facilitar la

reintegracin social de menores que hayan sufrido
accidentes de trfico.

In the same vein, its mission is to support and facilitate

the social reincorporation of young people who have
been injured in traffic accidents.

Promover la educacin vial como tema obligatorio

en los colegios.
Participar en labores de educacin y seguridad vial
con la Direccin General de Trfico, el Ministerio
de Educacin y las consejeras de las comunidades
autnomas.
Estimular a los padres, a travs de sus hijos,
a practicar conductas correctas en materia de
seguridad vial, y a los jvenes a mantener una
actitud vial correcta.
Intervenir en investigaciones y estudios
internacionales de optimizacin de la seguridad
vial, cientficos, cvicos, educativos, sanitarios,
tcticos, de universidades, etc.
Desarrollar programas de educacin vial infantil y
juvenil, y de sensibilizacin de la sociedad en este
mbito.

Promote traffic education as a mandatory subject

in schools.
Participate in the tasks of education and road
safety with the Spanish Directorate General
of Traffic (DGT), the Ministry of Education and
ministries in the autonomous communities.
Stimulate parents to model correct road safety
behaviour for their children, and young people to
maintain correct road safety awareness.
Take part in international scientific, private-sector,
educational, health-sector, tactical or university
studies and research to optimise road safety.
Develop programmes for childrens and young
peoples road safety education, and awarenessraising of society in this sphere.
