Sexual Harassment

ABSTRACT
This document describes the problems which happen in nowadays workplace with the
suggestion on how to overcome the problem. This document also explains the consequences
of the problems occurrence.

INTRODUCTION
Human behaviour is varying. There is no such thing as perfection. That is why
problems always occur without knowing places and times. This also happen in the workplace
where the best way on overcoming this is through the common sense. This statement is stated
by The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (n.d). Each problem that rises in the
workplace must be overcame quickly in order to provide a better environment to other
employees for better performances. It is everyone responsibilities on ways to handle those
problems. No one can close their eyes telling themselves that the problem does not have any
relationship with them. They must stand together with others to solve it in a short period of
time.
PROBLEM IN WORKPLACE
One of the serious problems that might occur in the workplace is sexual harassment.
Sexual harassment is defined by Yale University (n.d) as antithetical to academic values and
to a work environment free from the fact or appearance of coercion. It is also define as a form
of illegal discrimination on the basis of an individuals gender. It frequently involves an
expression of sexual conduct that seeks to exploit a relationship in which there is an
imbalance of power.

CONSEQUENCES
Sexual harassment is a sensitive and serious problem. It can give very bad
consequences to both the victims and the criminals. In some cases, the victims might lose
their job. It seems unfair but that is happening in nowadays world when the harasser is the
employer. This happens when the victim refuses to give in to the harassers sexual demands.
Other case is when the victims are so traumatized by the harassment. The victims
might ends up suffering serious emotional and physical consequences. Due to that reasons,
the victims cannot do their job properly and need to stop working.
SUGGESTION
As this is a serious case, there is two ways on settling with sexual harassment.
Employer need to discuss this matter with the victims. Either she or he wants to take this case
to the lawsuit or not. The victims might have her or his own reasons. Even it is better to take
the case to the lawsuit, but in order to protect the victims name, it is safer to settle in the
building. However, for the suspect, it is a must to punish him or her accordingly. As the
matter of fact, most of sexual harassment criminal will be fired from work. It is in order to let
the victim to start a better and fresher life in the workplace.
From the article of Sexual Harassment by the Department of Fair Employment and
Housing (n.d), there are few steps need to take by the employers against the harassment. Few
of them are taking all the reasonable steps to prevent discrimination and harassment from
occurring and stop any further harassment by taking the effective actions. Other than that,
employers need to develop and implement a sexual harassment prevention policy. It is a great
help for the employees to make a report and for the employers to solve the problem.
