history
Jamaica is wild and romantic county with beautiful beaches (Biiiiiiz).
Name Jamaica comes from Aravak language, and it means earth, forest and water. Inhibitants
(Inhibitnts) are related (rilejted) to african slaves which were brought to Jamaica to work.
Jamaica were discovered by Cristofor Columbo 1494.
Pirates (pajrts) mainly (meinli) lived on Jamaica during XII (tvelvT) and XIII (trtinT) century (senri).
Relief (r'lif) and climate

Jamaica is the third largest (lardest) island in the Caribbean Ocean (karibi'en oun). The majority of landscape are
mountains (mauntins), including the Blue Mountains, which are the biggest. They are surrounded (s'raunded) by
beaches. The capital city is Kingston. Dunn's River Fall is a famous waterfall in Jamaica. Port Royal was the site of a
major (mejdor) earthquake
The climate in Jamaica is tropical, with hot weather. Average (aver'd) temperatures are about 25 digrids. There's no
bigger differences between summer and winter temperatures.

There are many different types of plants, like bamboo, ferns, ebony (eboni), mahogany (mahagoni), rosewood

Ethnic structure

Jamaican are frendly and nice people, who are opened to help you and bring you their culure. The majority of population
is black because they come from Africa. But there are also Asian (Ejn) Jamaican, white Jamaican and others. Asians
are second largest groupe on Jamaica. Imigrants mainly come from China, Haiti, Cuba, Colombia, and Latin
American countries.

Language
The official language of Jamaica is English. Through the Reggae (rege) music their native (nejtiv) Jamaican Patois
language was spread (sprEd). Jamaican Patois is formed from English and African words with re-formed grammar
(gramaa).

Religion
The main religion is Christian (krin). The rest of religions are shown on this picture. Because of large number of
religions there are conflicts all the time.

Clothes (klots)
Jamaica people wear cottons (kotons) and linens (lin'ns) clothes because the island is hot. Women wear skirts (skrts), a
top and a headscarf (hedskarfs) that is made from calico, a type of cotton cloth, while men wear trousers (rauzers) and
shirts with designs of flowers, loud (laud) colours and sailing boats (bouts) or coconut (kokonAt) palms. They also put on
sandals for the footwear. Main hairstyle (heirstajl) are dreadlocks (drEdloks).

Politics

(demokrasi) and constitutional (konstitunl) monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II

Music, dance, art


The musical genres (anres) are reggae, ska, mento, rocksteady

dancehall and ragga. Ian Fleming, who lived in Jamaica, used the island in his James Bond novels. The actor Erol Flin
helped in develop tourism in this area.
