Panic situation in Padang city after earthquake 6.7 on April

Padang has dense

population at the
coastal areas.
In 2005, there was
no agency
responsible for the
tsunami challenge..

Disaster never wait until

we are ready!
We have to learn from
tsunami Aceh, more than
200,000 people died
because they did not have
enough knowledge about
tsunami hazard.

As the community
We strongly have to protect ourselves and
family
We have responsibility to increase our
capacity and skill in responding critical
situation
We have to be prepared since we can not
depend on others in emergency situation

Five Easy Steps to Participate in DRR

Understanding the hazard and risk
Understanding the early warning
Understanding the evacuation mechanism and
practicing it
Using knowledge, skill, and facilities to help
others
Building partnership with other resources

UNDERSTANDING THE HAZARD AND RISK

So, if you dont mind, we hope you can

give us suggestion about the maximum
inundation of tsunami could strike
inland, so we dont need to ask people
to run for about 10 km because many
areas are so flat, only 2 m above sea
level

UNDERSTANDING THE EARLY WARNING

The estimated time of tsunami arrival of is about 2030 minutes after the earthquake (means : we only
have 20 30 minutes to evacuate).
The best warning for the local tsunami is the
earthquake shaking. If lasting than 30 seconds or we
could not stand properly, we have to evacuate
immediately.
The technology helps us to confirm or to clarify the
