HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping Advanced

Edition(DDMA) software provides visibility into IT operations
by automatically and continuously mapping IT applications
and infrastructure elements. It generates topdown
and bottom-up views of the relationship between IT
applications and business services. It also generates an
automated, updated map showing both elements and
their relationships, and populates this data into the
HP Universal CMDB (UCMDB).
HP DDMA explores configuration items (CIs) from Layer 2
through Layer 7 of the Open Systems Interconnection
(OSI) model, as well as deep device application
information. Integrations with third-party vendors offer
the mapping of lower and higher levels.
HP offers frequent content packs that extend the
breadth and depth of discovery with new discovery
patterns and integrations with partners. This brief
provides an overview of HP DDMA Content Pack 9.

HP Live Network communitybased

rapid contentdelivery
HP offers value beyond the solution itself by offering up-to-date
content, product information, access to experts, and best practices
through the 24x7 online communities at HP Live Network. Discovery
content or integration adapters are released once ready at the
HP Live Network as an independent early access release. These
content are later grouped together and released as content packs on
a quarterly basis.

Whats new with latest DDMA

content pack 9?
The latest content pack 9, released in June 2011, delivers new and
enhanced functionality in the following areas:

Software AG (formerly IDS Scheer) integration

Software AG is the global leader in business process excellence, with
more than 40 years of innovation that includes ARIS, the first business
process analysis platform. The integration synchronizes business
services/processes and Enterprise Architecture (EA) information from
ARIS to UCMDB. This integration accelerates end-to-end change
management and impact analysis from the IT infrastructure (at the data
center level) to the business service/process level.
With this integration, UCMDB pulls information from an XML
export generated by ARIS. Today, the Configuration Items (CIs) that
are synchronized through the integration include business services,
business processes, business process steps, ownership information,
and business application software. This enables joint UCMDB/ARIS
customers to better understand and support their business processes
by mapping them to the physical IT Infrastructure. By synchronizing
IT transactions already modeled in ARIS into the HP CMS, customers
can use the business process model in ARIS as the basis for their
service model in HP Configuration Management System. This
provides a central location to maintain this information and enable
customers to use the information across the HP portfolio and the IT
processes. The pull integration uses an XML mapping framework
that allows users to add, remove or customize mapping of CIs and
attributes in UCMDB to objects in ARIS without any code change.

CA CMDB integration
The UCMDB and CA CMDB integration adapter allows pushing CIs
and relationship from UCMDB into CA CMDB. This is achieved by
querying the UCMDB for CIs and relationship based on TQL queries
defined in the push integration adapter. The output of the queried
CIs and relationship are saved in an XML file.
GRLoader, a utility provided with CA CMDB, transfers the CIs and
relationship data stored in the XML file into CA CMDB. An XML
mapping file is used to define how the CIs and relationship in
UCMDB are related to the CIs and relationship in CA CMDB.

Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server discovery

Microsoft Exchange Server is the server side of a clientserver,
collaborative application product developed by Microsoft. It is
part of the Microsoft Servers line of server products and is used
by enterprises using Microsoft infrastructure products. Exchanges
major features consist of electronic mail, calendaring, contacts, and
tasks; support for mobile and Web-based access to information; and
support for data storage. Content pack 9 supports the discovery of
Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server.
Microsoft announced the Exchange 2010 towards the 2009 and
included many new features including the changes in the way
clustering was implemented. Microsoft Exchange server clustering is
now implemented at database level rather than server level.
This new adapter discovers the administrative and routing groups,
organization, public folders, and folder trees of the Microsoft
Exchange Server.

IBM AS400 discovery

AS400 Host discovery is a simple host connection discovery for
AS400 computers. It can bring networking information such as
IP addresses, IP subnets and network interfaces from the AS400
system. A high-level architectural diagrams for this discovery solution
is illustrated in the following image.
Figure: 2
The image displays the topology of the AS400 Host discovery with

The NNMi integration is enhanced in this content pack to work

with pulling large amounts of NNMi data (Nodes > 50,000,
Interface>500,000). NNMi SSL configuration is also supported now.

PowerShell support enhancements

Windows PowerShell is Microsofts task automation framework,
consisting of a command-line shell and associated scripting
language built on top of, and integrated with, the .NET Framework.
PowerShell provides full access to COM and WMI, enabling
administrators to perform administrative tasks on both local and
remote Windows systems. Its now available out of the box with
Windows 2008 and is installable on any previous versions of
Windows. PowerShell is the Microsoft Windowss preferred
nextgeneration remote management API.
The new content enables the discovery of host connection, resources,
and applications using the PowerShell protocol.

IBM Mainframe discovery enhancements

The enhancement in this content pack enhances the IBM
Mainframe-z/OS environment discovery functionality that was
introduced in DDMA content pack 8 in partnership with HP partner
EView Technology.
In content pack 9, we added CICS program/transaction discovery,
IMS program/transaction discovery, and DASD (local volume on
mainframe)/volume group discovery.
Figure: 3
The image shows the newly added modules for IBM CICS discovery

NetApp filers
The integration involves synchronizing devices, topology, and
hierarchy of storage infrastructure in the UCMDB database (CMDB).
This will enable change management and impact analysis across all
business services mapped in UCMDB from a Storage point of view.
The integration currently involves a UCMDB initiated discovery on
the NetApp Filer Web Service API. Synchronized Configuration
Items (CIs) currently include NetApp Filers, Fiber Channel Switches,
Hosts (Servers), Storage Fabrics, Storage Zones, Logical Volumes,
Host Bus Adapters, Storage Controllers, and Fiber Channel Ports.
The integration also synchronizes physical relationship between
various hardware and logical relationship between logical volumes
and hardware devices to enable end-to-end mapping of the
storage infrastructure.

Storage virtualization discovery

Network Node Manager i (NNMi) integration
enhancements
Network topology data can be retrieved and saved in UCMDB for
change impact analysis using existing NNMi integration that uses
the Data Flow Management (DFM) technology.

Storage virtualization discovery is now supported in the content

pack 9. Storage Virtualization is the pooling of physical storage
from multiple network storage devices into a single logical or
virtual storage device that can be managed from a central
console. Storage virtualization is commonly used in a storage area
network(SAN). Management of storage devices can be tedious and
virtualization helps the storage administrator perform the tasks of
backup, archiving, and recovery more easily, and in less time, by
disguising the actual complexity of the SAN.

This functionally is offered through the enhancements in to the

Storage Essentials (SE) discovery package that integration pulls the
following aspects of storage virtualization from SE.

Figure: 6
This image shows the discovered topology of SAN External Storage

1. Fiber Channel (FC) Switch Virtualization

FC Switch Virtualization offers multiple logical or virtual switches by
virtualizing a physical switch or chassis. Unlike Ethernet virtualization,
in FC Switch virtualization, physical ports are not shared between
multiple virtual switches. Each virtual switch is assigned one or
more dedicated physical ports that are managed independently by
the logical switches. For example in Figure 5, the physical switch
cisco12 is operating as a regular switch with 12 ports and a virtual
switch 2137000DEC946181 is using two other ports.
A new view (FC Switch Virtualization) has been added to show
switch virtualization. Other views with FC Switches have been
updated as part the enhancements as well in content pack 9.
Figure: 5
This image shows the discovered topology of Fiber Channel Switch Virtualization

TCP discovery improvements

Network Connectivity Data Analyzer intended to replace number
of passive jobs with a single flexibly configured point. It provides
an extended set of options to specify which topology should be
reported to UCMDB depending on the IP range.

Topology Query Language (TQL) performance

enhancement
The performance of the TQL queries is enhanced in the content
pack 9. The performance enhancement is achieved by removing
unnecessary joins and deactivating reference view of TQL.

J2EE configuration links

J2EE application server discovery functionality is enhanced in content
pack 9 for adding links between J2EE applications and the resources
they use.
2. SAN External Storage
External storage configuration consists of a storage array presenting
a logical volume that in reality belongs to another storage array.
This is typically used in configurations where high-end, more
expensive, front end arrays present volumes from back end,
cheaper, storage to servers. The goal of this type of virtualization
is to virtualize multiple disk arrays from different vendors, scattered
over the network, into a single monolithic storage device, which can
be managed uniformly.
A new view (SAN External Storage) has been added to the Storage
Basic package to show external storage. The new implementation
only support the HP storage devices and other storage devices may
be added later depending on customer demand.

JBoss Application Server

JBoss is the most popular open-source Java application server.
Content pack 9 now supports the discovery of JBoss 5.x.

Oracle WebLogic 11g application server

Oracle WebLogic discovery package is now enhanced to support
the Oracle WebLogic 11g application server.

Enhanced Data Model

At the core of the HP Universal CMDB is the BTO Data Model
(BDM)a rich data model that is progressively becoming the lingua
franca of all HP BTO management products.
Content pack 9 now supports the latest version data model,
BDM 1.2, that will enhance the federated data access for a wide
variety of HP software products.
