This Part of BS EN 288 has been prepared by Technical Committee WEE/36, and is the
English language version of EN 288-2 : 1992 Specification and approval of welding
procedures for metallic materials Part 2: Welding procedure specification for the arc
welding, incorporating amendment A1, published by the European Committee for
Standardization (CEN).
EN 288-2 and amendment A1 were produced as a result of international discussions in
which the UK took an active part.

Foreword
This standard has been prepared by Working Group 1,
Specification and approval of welding procedures for
metallic materials of CEN/TC 121, Welding.
For this standard, ISO/TC 44/SC10 N 176 was
considered and used as a basis. However, alterations
were necessary due to the consideration of experience
and updated knowledge.
In accordance with the Common CEN/CENELEC
Rules, the following countries are bound to implement
this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Denmark,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland,
Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal,
Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

Foreword of Amendment A1
This Amendment EN 288-2 : 1992/A1 : 1997 to
EN 288-2 : 1992 has been prepared by Technical
Committee CEN/TC 121, Welding, the secretariat of
which is held by DS.
This Amendment to the European Standard EN 288-2 :
1992 shall be given the status of a national standard,
either by publication of an identical text or by
endorsement, at the latest by December 1997, and
conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by December 1997.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations,
the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European
Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland,
Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal,
Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

1 Scope
This standard specifies requirements for the content of
welding procedure specifications for arc welding
processes. The principles of this standard may be also
applied to other fusion welding processes subject to
agreement between the contracting parties.
Variables listed in this standard are those influencing
the metallurgy, mechanical properties and the geometry
of the assembly.
2 Normative references
This standard incorporates by dated or undated
reference, provisions from other publications. These
normative references are cited at the appropriate
places in the text and the publications are listed
hereafter. For dated references, subsequent
amendments to or revisions of any of these
publications apply to this standard only when
incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For
