To begin, the first image shows what song we chose to re make at the start of this project, Sweet Life by Frank Ocean.
The image I used was the only one available on the internet and to be honest I think it is a good way to start my visual
journey because its starts by being clear (image 1).
The appearance of Frank Ocean in this picture is what we wanted to take from the original video and re make in our own
video therefore running onto the next image of Alexo wearing the suit. With image 3 looking so stylish I was tempted to
use an image of Alexo on my digipak however I already had a good idea of what I wanted (images 2 and 3).
At this stage I started researching into what my digipak would look like and the styles, therefore I looked at Frank Oceans
original digipak front covers and found the one that I already had in mind from knowing Frank Oceans digipaks already.
The reasoning why I chose this one was because of the pure style and simple mind. I also found another Channel Orange
digipak which had the same sort of design/idea therefore I used it as it had the same design as I wanted. (images 4 and 5).
Leading on from this, I took the image from Frank Oceans digipak (image 4 and 5) and looked at pictures of TVs on the
internet. When searching for some, I liked the idea of a static TV as it added more effect and so found two that I loved and
wanted to use on my final digipak. However I soon found out afterwards that we couldnt use existing images from the
internet, we had to use our own, so this led me to have to re think my ideas and start again (images 6 and 7).
I decided that I should take pictures of Alexo as it would make my digipak look more professional and a lot of hip hop/R&B
digipaks that I had researched used the artist on the front cover. I took my images in the AVS room at college as it
provided all I needed, a white background with a few lights to brighten the artist and enhance my images more (image 8).
The next 5 images surrounding image 8 are some of the photos I took of Alexo but didnt choose to add on my digipak as
they werent as good as the others (images 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13).

After I had sorted through what images I wanted to have on the inside of my digipak I began to research existing hip hop
digipaks and found that from the artists I like and listen to, a couple of their CDs were in a black and white which added
some effect and difference from other digipaks. It also made some features e.g. of the face stand out more and emphasise
them and as seen as Tyrant is a new upcoming artist I thought this would be good to define him as a character on his first
digipak (images 14, 15, 16 and 17).
This basically shows what colours I wanted my 4 image selection that would be on the inside cover to be in; black and
white (image 18).
This image was taken from my actual digipak and shows the 4 images I decided to use from when we took photos of Alexo
in the studio at college. They look much more professional and connote him more as a hip hop artist than the others I
captured. As I researched the other existing digipaks and found that I liked the black and white effect, when editing I
eventually chose to use the black and white idea because of the formality it brought to my pictures (image 19).
At the beginning when I researched about Frank Ocean on Google I came across a photo that had some text written over
it, after I had sorted everything before this stage out, I went back to look at this image as it used a font that I really liked
and I thought would fit well to my genre of music (image 20).
This is just a close up of the font from the picture before (above). Shows you the font more clearly and the way in which
every letter has been written differently to any other more normal font (image 21).
Both of these pictures are my fonts that I used on my final digipak and are as close to images 20 and 21 that I could get to.
It isnt exactly the same but I got near enough the shapes I wanted. I used the white letters on a black background because
it stands out more and you can define each letter and the font (images 22 and 23).

Now I was to concentrate on the front cover more as this is one of the most important panels on a digipak, the image of
ASAP Rocky is on my visual journey because I liked the hand signs he was doing and wanted to re-create my own version
of this with Alexo for my own digipak. A lot of artists just have normal close ups with the artist just keeping a straight face
on the front cover of their digipaks; therefore I wanted to do something different and more visual to look at (image 24).
I have known about this digipak cover a long time as I am a fan of Kendrick Lamar therefore knew about the design and
how everything was organised together which I like as it keeps the design simple, which is what hip hop is all about. I took
the placement of the Parental advisory sticker and used it on my own, I also chose to use the white border bars around
the front cover image (image 25).
To finish with Ive added my final digipak front cover, which shows what I took from where and how I finally came down to
doing what I did because of the visual journey I went through. Shows what happened for me to reach the final stage and
produce my own digipak which promotes my artist and shows others who he is.
