PURPOSE :
1.1

This Quality Control Procedure describes the inspection instruction to be

observed and /or implemented during the installation and test of Online Corrosion
Monitoring System including its associated equipment for this project.

1.2

This procedure is issued to ensure that all works/activities are fully in compliance
with Saudi Aramco Standard, Project contract specification and drawings.
SCOPE :
2.1

The Quality Control Procedure gives inspection instructions to

be observing and / or implemented during the Online Corrosion
Monitoring System installation and testing of cable and
equipment for this project.

2.2

This procedure is issue to ensure that all work and test

activities are in full compliance with SAUDI ARAMCO
standards, National Electrical Code Standards, American
Society for Testing and Materials, project drawing and
specifications.

SAFETY REQUIRMENTS :
4.1

5.0

Rev. 00

Before starting construction activities, SIS shall qualify all

needed materials and related laboratory tests/service as per
applicable Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards, procedures,
SA Material System (SAMSS) and contract/project
requirements. SIS shall submit the Purchase Requisition
documentation (MR) to SAPMT for review and concurrence
prior to placing the purchase order. SIS shall make every effort
to recommend materials which are standardized to company
SAMSS cataloged items and commodity classification codes
and from approved company suppliers.

WOTK EXECUTION :
Pre-Installation Inspection
5.1

Instrument Inspector shall verify all materials, documents prior

to installation in compliance with IFC Drawing Requirements,
Codes, Standards, and Specification.

5.2

Material receiving and work execution shall be closely

monitored, inspected/verified and result recorded in applicable
Checklist Forms.

5.3

All Retrieval Tools and Service Valves must be pressure tested

prior to use.

5.4

Before start the work execution of online retrievals installation,

the field technician using equipment must possess current
pressure test certificates for the retrieval equipment prior to
commencing on-line retrievals operations.

5.5

Instrumentation inspector should verify the tools are free from

heavy debris, sand. The field technician will determine on a
case by case basis if the tool needs to be stripped down or if it
can be flushed out with either water or suitable cleaning agent
without stripping the tools down.

5.6

Instrumentation inspector should verify the pipe line pressures

and temperatures, so that operating pressure of tools is not
exceeded.

5.7

Follow all manufacture instructions during the installation,

operation and maintenance time.

5.8

During installation to avoid handling the probe measurement

element, which can cause additional corrosion.

5.9

Use extreme care in handling the probe to prevent damage to

the measuring element. Not allow to touch the measuring
element with fingers or allow any foreign material such as
grease or oil to come in contact with it before installation, as
this could affect probe performance.

INSTALLATION INSPECTION :
6.1

Instrumentation inspector shall verify the probe measurement

element surface should be smooth and free of indentations or
signs of mechanical damage.

6.2

Install the probe in a position as representative of the corrosive

environment as possible without causing deleterious effects to
the probe or the system.

6.3

Do not mount probe transversely in a high-flow pipe line

without shielding.

6.4

Instrumentation inspector should check correct operation of the

instrument with the test probe provided according to the
manufacturer's instructions.

6.5

Instrumentation inspector should check Microcor transmitters

can only be used with Microcor probes.

6.6

Instrumentation inspector ensures that explosion proof

(flameproof) enclosure of transmitter top side Allen screw fully
tightens.

6.7

Transmitter to a probe and power/communications cables in a

hazardous area, explosion proof (flameproof) connectors are
used.

6.8

Small amount of white grease or silicone grease should be

used to lubricate the O rings to assist assembly.

6.9

Transmitter to grounded (earthed) or bonded to ground. (When

the transmitter is connected directly to a probe, this bonding is
accomplished through the probe body. To ensure good bonding
and 14 to 18 swg grounding wire can be attached to the
transmitter at the grounding stud provided and connected to
ground (earth).

6.10

Instrumentation inspector should verify Installed probe is

compatible with the process fluid/gas.

6.11

Instrumentation inspector should verify and record the thread

probe into the hollow plug (Left-hand thread) torque the probe
to approximately 50 ft-lbs.

6.12

Maintain clockwise pressure on the translation handle to

ensure the hex on the socket adapter remained over the plug
assembly and turn the rotation handle clockwise approx. 14
turns until carrier plug primary seal seats in access fitting.

6.13

During tighten time do not use excessive force and be sure

that the threads engage properly to prevent cross threading.
(Cross threading may require equipment to be on the access
fitting until the line is isolated).

6.14

The back pressure nitrogen bottle pressure to be at least

200PSI (13bar) higher than the line pressure.

6.15

The carrier plug threads are coated with nonmetallic grease.

6.16

Not screw the carrier plug fully down on to pilot adapter thread
'O' ring. Leave at least one full thread showing.

INSPECTION AND TESTING :

7.1

Instrumentation inspector should verify equipment to be

erected using manufacture's special installation instruction.

7.2

Installing cabling for connection of an on-line multi-drop

system, especially on the 24VDC supply lines to ensure that
there is sufficient voltage at each transmitter to drive the
electronics.

7.3

Instrumentation inspector shall verify the transmitter

connection method (RS 485 is a serial, not parallel, connection
system. Only short connections are permitted between the RS
485 bus and the transmitter (not more than 50 feet). Splitting
the RS 485 bus into two or more spurs of more than 50 feet is
not permitted without an RS 485 repeater module.

7.4

Two wires should not be connected into one terminal block, as

this may cause a high resistance connection or a completely
failed connection.

7.5

The configuration of system and connection of transmitter is as

per specified drawings. Only one transmitter at a time must be
addressed.

7.6

Verify the microcor probe on each transmitter check that all

channels are reading correctly.

8.0 DOCUMENTATION:
