Letter from the Co-Editors
Dear Potential Advertisers,

Thank you for your interest in sponsoring The Harvard Undergraduate Research Journal. We are
proud to offer a publication that showcases the work of the brightest up and coming minds in the
United States. As one of the most selective schools in the world, Harvard College consistently re-
cruits the most talented and promising future scientists, mathematicians, social scientists, and
economists.

Each year, thousands of Harvard undergraduates undertake research projects in laboratories, clin-
ics and in the field with professors, top researchers, and research institutions. They foray into
fields ranging from microfluidics to the mathematical theory of voting, dedicating time, energy,
and creativity to their intellectual pursuits. Our goal is to expose the world to their work and to
showcase the discoveries happening everyday on Harvard’s campus.

The authors featured in this journal go through a competitive review process in which their work is
judged and fine-tuned by world-class researchers. Their work is undertaken in Harvard-affiliated
centers all around the world. As a result the work published in this journal often becomes the basis
for larger intellectual endeavors, and the authors go on to top-grade graduate programs and pro-
fessional careers.

We hope that you view your sponsorship of this journal as a sponsorship of intellectual pursuits.
Your sponsorship could help establish the foundations for fruitful and prolific careers.

We look forward to speaking with you and together helping some of the nation’s brightest see their
work in print— perhaps for the very first time. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any
questions or suggestions— we are always looking for new ideas and truly appreciate your interest.

Sincerely,
Lisa Rotenstein and John Zhou

About the Journal
The Harvard Undergraduate Research Journal is fresh, creative and cutting-edge.
Our staff covers the latest ground-breaking scientific developments of the world, and
we spotlight the top research manuscripts from Harvard undergraduates in both the
natural and social sciences. We are respected and recognized by Harvard students
and faculty alike.

Founded in 2007, The Harvard Undergraduate Research Journal is Harvard’s sole

undergraduate research journal. We publish peer-reviewed scientific literature from
all scientific and social science disciplines, providing a forum in which sharing of
knowledge can take place. In addition, we publish feature articles, Op-Eds and re-
search related news articles. We are currently developing an exciting blog that will be
able to foster scientific discussion in real-time on Harvard’s campus every day.

Issuance — THURJ is published bi-annually in the fall and in the spring and is dis-
tributed to every single undergraduate on Harvard’s campus as well as to
hundreds of departments, faculty, and affiliated institutions.

Our peer review process, during which the submitted manuscripts are rigorously re-
viewed by the same standards as used by the New England Journal of Medicine, is
central to THURJ’s mission. Our peer-review procedure stimulates faculty-student
collaboration across the university, in
addition to promoting collaboration
among the College and Harvard’s post-
graduate schools. Our undergraduate re-
viewers continue working with Harvard
professors after first-round reviews
throughout the entire process to further
narrow-down and eventually select the
content for publication.
