Preliminary Music video Task

Seven Nation Army Video Recreation

The Six general rules when creating a music video are:
-

Match On Action
Match Cuts
Editing to the beat
Movement
75% of the shots are of the artist
75% of the shots are mid close ups

All of the six rules were incorporated into our video shown in the camerawork and editing.

Camerawork1. Movement, we achieved movement through the movement of the camera, we maintained a
constant movement of the camera, even during close up shots we moved the camera
around our subject, and when we feature more static shots, the subject was moving.
2. 75% of the shots are focused on the artist, the majority of the focus mainly being to do with
the close up in our shot and showing off our artist, we have a strong focus on that star of
our video.
3. 75% Close ups, this is true to our music video as the majority of shots are either close ups or
mid shots highlighting the main character.

Editing4. Match on Action

Our music video was more performance focused rather than having a narrative, because of this
match on action was harder to incorporate into our video as it had no story line to follow, and
continuity was not as big as an issue due to the lack of story, however we still managed to
accomplish the use of match on action, we did this by going from one shot to another as the artist
was singing, from a mid-shot to a close up of the mouth form a similar or the same angle

5. Match Cuts
We used this type of shot regularly as we often jumped from shot to shot and then repeated for
effect and to enhance the movement
6. Editing to the beat
The editing in our music video is very much done to the beat with the shots cutting when the base
comes in, to amplify this further we introduced colours, with a blue, red, white and black colour
scheme which cycled through the beat of the song.

During the creation of the music video for seven nation army we went through various stages.
At first we had to come up with a narrative and make a story board to follow the narrative, this
specified the images, shot type, shot duration, the dialogue/lyrics associated with each shot and the
mise-en-scen displayed in each shot.
Next we decided to allocate roles to accomplish our shots methodically and logically. Our group
consisted of four members, one was on camerawork, another was on lighting and our third was on
music and I was the main character of the video. After this we took to the drama room due to its
plain black backgrounds which suited our music video. The shooting of our video took us about 2
hours using the time efficiently and using the technique of keeping the camera rolling for a longer
time then was necessary for the shot in order to gain maximum footage and potential adlibs that
could be used in the video.

In all we had around 29 minutes of footage that we could sift through and make ready for editing
which was helpful as we has an excessive amount of footage. When editing all four of us in the group
took a strong roll with selecting which close ups to use and what types of shot went best with the
lyrics. All in all the creating of our music video went very smoothly and our team worked extremely
well together. With my role in the music video I was required to visualise what the finishing piece
was going to look like and use my initiative in order to perform the song and give the video
professional quality which would be seen if the actual singer was seen. I also had to take directions
the directions given to me buy the other members.
