The History of the Company:

Forty-nine years ago, a young couple started out with meager capital and limited business
experience but with clear vision and a lot of entrepreneurial spirit.
Norberto B. Quisumbing, Jr., and his wife, Britta Bartolome-Quisumbing, clinched in 1962 the
Philippines' exclusive manufacturing and distributorship of Yamaha motorcycles and nurtured
the business to become one of the longest business partnerships Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., of
Japan has around the world.

Starting out with a five-man team, the couple divided the work in the newly-organized Norkis
Trading Co., Inc. in Cebu.
"I was in charge of operations and marketing while she handled finance," recalls NQJr, as the
founder is fondly called. They worked hard and kept faith in each other's capabilities. "I could
go home only once a month," he recalls those early years when he had to travel all over the
country personally organizing Yamaha's marketing network.
"I had no formal training in finance," Britta admits. But her training as a classical pianist gave

her a keen eye for details and a strong drive for perfection -- traits that enabled her to adeptly
play her complicated role of tightly monitoring the fledgling company's financial performance
and rearing her children.
Under Britta's eagle eyes, the past 49 years has always been profitable for Norkis. NQJr. has
all the reasons to be proud. "Our business grew and we have made significant contributions in
the economic development of the communities where we operate. We achieved all of these
despite the economic downturns and without any special perks or accommodations from the
government," he says.
Today, Norkis is one of Cebu's leading tax payers. For a good number of years, Norkis has
been recognized by the Bureau of Customs as the top importer of the Port of Cebu, having
paid duties and taxes amounting to P258 million in 2003 and P219 million in 2004. The Norkis
Group's value-added tax (VAT) payments amounted to P552 million in 2003 and P678 million

in 2004. Norkis was given the "Top Achiever Award" by the Bureau of Internal Revenue's Large
Taxpayers Service-Cebu last February 2005.
There is no secret formula -- it is pure and simple honest, hard work. "We delegate but never
abdicate supervision," he says.
Today, Norkis' highly diversified operations have over 5,000 employees with aggregate payroll,
benefits and incentives of about P60 million a month. Another 5,000 derive their livelihood
through its contractors and independent dealers, creating another income stream into the local
economy of about P40 million a month.
The Cebu head office oversees the operation of several factories in Mandaue and Compostella.
With a network of over 1,200 branches, dealers, and service centers nationwide, it boasts of a
strong market presence in every province and city throughout the country. The hundreds of

thousands of loyal Norkis customers are always assured they get the personalized attention
they deserve and the adequate after-sales service they need.
The Norkis Group's 34 companies are grouped into three: Norkis Holdings, Summa, and Eagle.
The Norkis Group exports furniture and metal crates. It has agribusiness ventures in Cebu,
Bukidnon, Batangas and Masbate. Norkis is also involved in metal fabrication, engineering
work, and real estate development. It launched the Golden Aire line of air conditioners and
recently the Legacy First. It has produced and sold over a million units of Yamaha motorcycles,
which continue to enjoy strong market demand.
An innovator in multi-purpose, affordable vehicles, the Norkis family shares every Filipino to
have a vehicle of his own so he can be the master of his own time.

Narrative Report
My First Day Experience:
Im 4th year students taking Bachelor Of Science Information Technology at
Access Computer College. I am required to take On-the-job training for preparation in working
in real world after school. I chose the Norkis Group of Companies because my uncle is working
there. Before I started in my first day in OJT I acquired to take an exam and after that I
oriented by Maam Rhea she explained about the history of Norkis Group of Company, mission
and vision of the company and also about the rules and regulation.

On my first day I arrived early, Maam Rhea give me the attendance report that

Im going to log in and out, the date that I start training, and the department I assigned and I

was very nervous on what will happen in working there because in a first place the HR inform
me that I will assign in I.T department or ISD and all of them are boys and I am the only girl in
the department so I dont know how I supposed to approach them but the people I have
worked with made it very enjoying. I expected that my superiors are so strict in working but all
of them are very nice.

July 1, 2014 Tuesday, was my first day of trainee. When I entered in my

department I was so nervous that time because this is my first time that I worked as technical

that related to my course as B.S Information Technology. When I entered in room the first thing
I do is to greet my superiors or my boss and my co employees a Good Morning Sir and I
introduced myself. My co employees are Sir Arnel, Sir Ramil, Sir Mario, Sir Joseph, and Sir

Timothy at first they taught me how to answer telephone calls, how I supposed to greet them
and how to transfer telephone calls to my boss because they have so many calls to answered
every day that is the first thing I need to know.

My first time is very challenging for me and I know that everyone is nice person they can help
me a lot of thing that I need to learn not only about the company but also about programming
and technical that I can use in my course. At first, I have the hardship of familiarizing all the

work they are giving me. In my first day I dont have many task because its my first day and
my boss told me that they all free today to surf and they have no works in that day because all
computers is okay and there had nothing to do on that. I feel Im in the hot seat because all of
them asking me where is my school?, what course Im taking up?, and what the reason why I
chose this company?. But I answer all of question they ask me because that is the one thing to
make us feel comfortable and getting to know each other.

I have developed as a trainee; I follow all instruction and task given by my

superior. I asking question to understanding about things. And I improve my self confidence in

socializing to people. In my 300 hours working as intern it helps me to learn more and to
discover my skills that I can use working in future.

As I entered college I am prepared that one day I will be working in the real

world. So after taking this on-the-job training I am assuring myself that this will help me in my
future job. I am excited on what will happen next.

Description of Immediate Boss:

I work as an intern in Norkis Group of Companies. My boss is humble, open
minded and nice. The head department is Sir Argie he is Computer Engineer and Sir Greg is
an I.T Analyst both of them is a nice person that I encountered in my working experience.

When the first time I meet my bosses Im so nervous because this is my first time to have a
boss which are boys. I want them because they give us freedom to whatever we wanted and
sometimes theyre funny. I know they appreciate the work I do and all of them help me a lot of
things about my course. There is patience and helpful they understand all of employees in the
I.T Department. I admire them because of their passion in working.

Description of Co-Employee:
I really enjoyed working with my co employees Sir Arnel, Sir Mario, Sir Ramil,
Sir Joseph, and Sir Timothy because all of them are very nice with me even if all of them are
boys and they always funny in our department so it makes my day happy. Sometimes if we
had no task given by our boss we are watching funny videos in the internet, surfing in face

book and there always joking many times so make the day not boring. In my first time I
expected that my co employees is strict in working but its not like other company that I heard
with my other classmates. I learned a lot of them I thankful for that. They taught me regarding
about the computers like how format computers, programming using vb6, troubleshoot,
installing and many more.

Overall Experience
On Job Training or OJT is the one method which the student gives a chance to
apply their learned from school. It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and
skills by performing actual working setting.
Im 4th yr. student of Access Computer College taking up B.S Information
Technology. Im an intern at Norkis Group Of Companies I worked for 300 hours for our partial
requirements as graduating students. I chose Norkis Group of Companies as my company in
my On-Job-Training or OJT I know that in this company gives me a lot of knowledge and I
can show my ability in working with them and this department that I assigned is related in my
course B.S Information Technology that I can used after I graduate. Our school Access

Computer College given us 300 hours in any company we chosen to worked as intern for our
partial requirements as graduating students.

In my first day on July 1, 2014 (Tuesday) I was nervous and upset at the very

first time. I assigned at I.T Department given by Maam Leah. At first, I prepared a lot of things

in my first day because I dont want my boss and my co employees disappointed with me.
This is my first time working like a real and a big company like Norkis. And Im so happy that I
passed the exam given me and to be qualified as intern in there company. First day on my
OJT I meet my boss and my co employee Maam Leah introduce me with them and all of them
are boys and I dont know how I approach everyone but this experience helps me a lot when

Im starting also working in the future. And my first day is so awkward for me because I dont
know what to do theyre all boys Im so nervous I dont know what to say. So in a whole day I
was so quiet and shy, I sitting in front of my P.C and thinking what the first thing that I can do.
But everyone is nice to me and funny so I know how to talk or communicate well with them
sometimes.

The next day July 2, 2014 (Wednesday), this is more challenging for me because

they have more tasks given me they taught me how to format computers this is my first time.
The first computer that I format is my P.C in here in office and the second is laptop. Every

morning we had a time to talk and drink coffee before we start our duties. I felt comfortable
now because I already know everyone. After a week past Sir Mario and Sir Ramil build a
program that assign with them and Ive been curios how to make like them. They said to me

that I started practicing how to program like them so I can learn before I finished my ojt. I have

many people encountered when my boss had their meeting with the other boss and
employees I must observing the flow of the company is and also how they talk to and what
their problems they need to arrange. In the next month August, first day of the month August
1, 2014 our boss is treat us a food for our merienda to make the day enjoying working with
them. And this month of August we had so many holidays that theres no working day and I

had two absences because I always waking up earlier. I tried every day to wake up earlier
because my house is far from the office and I had 2 rides but sometimes I go with my uncle he
has a motorcycle.

During the month of August I experienced a storm in manila, it makes flood in any
places. So some of my boss is absent and the thing that I need to do whole day in office is to
answer a phone calls. Everyday Sir Greg is always remind me that I need to study hard like in
programming because he told me that after I graduate it hard to find a job if you dont have

ability to build some program, that every company wants to. After I finished my 300 hours in
my ojt I have learn a lot of thing in the company and also about some tips they given to me
and this experiences helps me a lot when I started working. My last day is Sept. 5, 2014

(Friday), its hard to leave in the company because I really enjoyed my on-the-job training at
Norkis and working with them.

Narrative Report / Evidence / Pictures:

On-the-Job-Training or OJT is job training that occurs in the work place. It is
part of a college curriculum that aims to train and orient students about the work and their
future career. It is very important not only to teach students their chosen career but to show
students the reality about working. It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and
skills by performing in actual work setting. It will give us sense of confidence that we can use
when we are applying for a job after graduation and also help us to make career choices.

My company is Norkis Group of Company, it started in 1962. The founders are
