Introduction

Student Intake

Architect Registrations

Conclusions

Since registrations started in 1975, the growth in numbers of new registrations has
always remained at or under 11% (with the exception of the first few years, when
architects already practicing in the field applied for registration), whereas the
student intake has increased by a larger proportion.
The industry has so far been absorbing architects growing in number at the rate of
10% per year.

Introduction

Student Intake

Architect Registrations

CoA has approximately 50,000 registered architects

for a nation of 1.237 billion
That translates to having one architect for every 25,000 people
This is far above the Chinese ratio: one architect for every 40,000 citizens

Conclusions

Introduction

Student Intake

Population per architect

across countries shows
China has the lowest, and
Italy has the highest
proportion, with ONE
architect for 414 people.

Introduction

Student Intake

Architect Registrations

Conclusions

The requirements of an eighty thousand strong student

population must be met by the outnumbered registered
architects. The situation at this point is not likely to repeat
itself again, and in the apparent crisis is an opportunity to play
a highly effective role in the education of our future generation
of architects.
