The Room of the 12th Isonzo Offensive

Reconstruction of a Cavern

The Kobarid Museum (Kobariki muzej) presents to visitors

historical events that took place along the river Soa/Isonzo
during the First World War. The most extensive part of the
permanent exhibition is focused on mountain warfare in
the Julian Alps and on the last combat there, i.e. the Twelfth
Isonzo Battle, also called the Battle of Kobarid. This encounter of hundreds of thousands of soldiers and officers
of the Austro-Hungarian, German and Italian armies began
on 24 October 1917 along the Soa and ended seventeen
days later along the banks of the river Piave. The Battle of
Kobarid:

are temporary exhibitions, and a 20-minute documentary
film on the Battle of Kobarid can be watched there.

In the Room with the relief-map of the Upper Soa Region

on the second floor, the deployment is presented of the
troops on 23 October 1917, one day before the decisive battle.

The days of these sore trials were poignantly described by
Ernest Hemingway in his novel A Farewell to Arms. For
Erwin Rommel, the battle was but an important milestone
in his brilliant military career.

to military troops, soldiers equipment and the life during
the short intervals between the offensives.
The Black Room is a room of warning and reflection on how

In the Room of the Breakthrough are presented the first

three days of the fights when the united Austro-Hungarian
and German troops conquered Kobarid and broke through
onto the Italian territory.
