RBIs guidelines for new bank licenses:


Bank should have 49% cap on foreign holding in new
banks and minimum paid-up equity capital is Rs 500
Crores.
New banks will have to set up 25% of its branches in
unbanked rural areas.
Existing NBFCs, if considered eligible, may be
permitted to promote new banks or convert
themselves into banks.
The paid-up equity capital should be Rs 500crore and
they will have to get listed within three years of
operations.
The Reserve Bank of India has issued a new series of
50 paisa coins with the rupee symbol and new security
features to facilitate easy recognition.
Important Fact and news of RBI:
RBI has launched a website explaining ways to detect
counterfeit notes. With a tagline 'Pehchano Paise Ki
Boli, Kyunki Paisa Bolta Hai'.
At present Indias foreign exchange reserves is $
293.84 billion.
RBI Sign first Currency Swap Agreement with Royal
Monetary Authority of Bhutan valid for a period of 3
years, according to this the Royal Monetary Authority
of Bhutan can draw US Dollar, Euro or Indian Rupee in
multiple tranches up to a maximum of 100 million US
dollars or its equivalent.
RBI issued a guide lines that all the cheques should be
cleared in 2 days.
The Reserve Bank did a scrutiny of head offices and
branches of ICICI, HDFC and Axis Bank, which are
accused of money laundering and violating regulations
like FEMA and KYC.
RBI has allowed RRBs to open branches in Tier-II cities
(Population -50,000 to 99,999 as per 2001 census)
without taking its permission.

RBI hiked the investment limit in government


securities by FIIs and long-term investors $25 billion
from $20 billion and in corporate bonds $50 billion
from $45 billion.
RBI has extended the date for implementation of
Basel III by three months i.e., from 1 Jan to 1 April,
2013.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of Vietnam
(SBV) for promoting greater co-operation and sharing
supervisory information, between the two
supervisors.
In order to promote lending to priority sectors, the
Reserve Bank has allowed urban co-operative banks
(UCBs) to grant unsecured loans up to 25 % of their
assets if certain conditions are met.

Taxes:
Service tax (12%), Custom duty (10%) & Excise duty
(12%) remains unchanged.
Tax benefits in RGESS extended to 3 years:
The Rajiv Gandhi Equity Savings Scheme (RGESS) will be
liberalised to enable first time retail investors to invest
in mutual funds and listed shares and not in one year
alone, but for three successive years.
Under the scheme, an individual with an income of less
than Rs 12 lakh would get tax incentives for investing up
to Rs 50,000 in the stock market.
Also, the limit for investors wanting to invest in RGESS
has been raised to Rs 12 lakh from Rs 10 lakh earlier.

The Union government approved a 1500 crore Rupees


proposal for production of more than 2000 rockets for
the Pinaka multi- barrel weapons system.
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural
Development (NABARD) in Karnataka has disbursed 750
crore rupees financial assistance for creating rural
infrastructures like Raitha Samparka Kendras,
Anganwadis, schools, ITIs, rural roads and bridges during
2012-13.
Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram inaugurated
300 new bank branches.The participating banks include
public sector Allahabad Bank, Bank of India, Syndicate
Bank, Union Bank of India, Canara Bank, and private
sector HDFC, Indusind Bank, Shreyas Grameen Bank and
others.
Union Govt. announced to spend Rs. 1000 crores in the
current financial year to increase rice production in the
eastern states.
The Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), headed
by DEA Secretary Arvind Mayaram, approved the
proposal of Air Asia's India investment plans, which
allows up to 49 per cent FDI. Rs 80 crore is initial
investment.
The taxation authorities in India has made E-filing
mandatory for all the taxpayers in the country who earn
more than Rs. 5 lakh per annum to file their tax returns
online.
In a report of Tata Strategic Management Group Punjab,
Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana have been ranked
at the top of the Well Being Index (WBI) while Gujarat
and most of the north-eastern states emerged as the
most secure ones for women in the Female Security
Index (FSI).

Reliance Industries for expanding Reliance's projects at

In Haryana, to ensure that all the health facilities and
services provided by Health Department are accessible
to the people, a programme called Rapid Appraisal of
Programme Implementation in District.
Odisha decided to set up the first public health
university in India, This university will be set up under
Public-Private Partnership mode at Gramadiha village in
Jatni tehsil on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. An MoU
has been signed in this regard by State Health
Department and Asian Institute of Public Health in
Bhubaneshwar.
Madya Pradesh CM announced Mukhyamantri Yuva
Swarozgar Yojna. Under the scheme, the State
Government will give bank guarantee for industries
worth up to 25 lakh rupees and 5% loan subsidy for 5
years.

IMPORTANT GOVERNMENT SCHEMES


BHARAT NIRMAN:
It was implemented and extended in three phases i.e.,
from (2005 - 2009), (2009 - 2012), (2012- 2014)
It is centrally sponsored scheme for the rural
development of India started in September 2005.
There are 6 objectives in this scheme
Objectives:
To provide all weather road connectivity to the village
which have more than 1000 population in plain areas
and 500 population in hilly areas.
To bring 10 million hectares of land under irrigation
facility and to make 1.4 million hectares of additional
land for arable land (for the use of agriculture).
To provide clean drinking water to all villages by the end
of 2012 under Rajiv Gandhi payjal yojana.
To electrify 1, 76,000 villages by the end of 2012 under
Rajiv Gandhi Vidyutikaran yojna.
To construct Pakka houses for BPL house- holds under

Indira Awas Yojana (Now from April 1 2013 cash
assistance Rs. 70000 for plain areas and Rs. 75000 for
hilly areas) previously it was Rs. 40000 for plain areas

MGNREGA: Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment

This scheme is both for Urban and Rural areas.
The old name of this scheme is NREGA and it was

The wages under the scheme is fixed on the basis of CPIAL (Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labourers)
which is calculated by the state government on the basis
of their Per capita Income.
UIDAI: Unique Identification Authority of India.
It was started in the year 2010 to provide multipurpose
national identity card (MNIC) to every citizen aged
above 5 years.
Its name has been changed to Aadhar.
Its model state was Karnataka (started)
The retinal identification is taken from the age group of
14 and above.

NFSM: National Food Security Mission
This scheme is to reduce the poverty in India under
national social assistance programme.
Under Public Distribution System (PDS), government will
provide rice @ Rs. 3/kg, wheat @ Rs. 2/kg to the BPL
households.
IGNOAPS: Indira Gandhi National Old age Pension Scheme
This Scheme is for the people who aged above 65 years.
The amount of Rs. 400 per month (Central govt + State
govt = Rs. 200 + Rs. 200) will be provided by both
Central government and State government who aged
between 65 80 years.
Rs. 500 per month (Central govt + State govt = Rs. 250 +
Rs. 250) for the people who aged more than 80 years.
IGNWPS: Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme
The beneficiary is in between age group of 40-64 years
in this scheme.
Assistance of Rs. 400 per month (Central govt + State
govt = Rs. 200 + Rs. 200) will be given to particular
person.

NFBS: National Family Benefit Scheme


Under this scheme a grant of Rs. 10000 is given in case
of natural and accidental death of the primarily
breadwinner of the family (he/she) of BPL households.
ANNAPURNA:
Under this scheme 10 kg of food grains are provided to
BPL households free of cost every month.
But for this scheme the particular beneficiary shouldnt
be registered with IGNOAPS.
