tour

One of the most enjoyable ways to discover this special place in paradise is to venture out on our small
self-guided tour, available from 9am to noon everyday.
Please read the steps below before begining your tour.
Step 1: Basic Guidelines
As a guest to our monastery, you are requested to wear
modest clothing. If you are wearing shorts, a short dress
or tank top, please put on a wrap-around (sarong). You
will find a selection in the entrance gazebo behind you.
Polo shirts are okay.
You are welcome to take photos anywhere except inside Kadavul Temple. (please see map on reverse)
Please do not leave valuables in your car.
The monastery is open from 9am to noon every day.

Please take one of these booklets with you. It gives
many details about the monastery.

Please turn over this page to see the map that will
guide you through our front monastery grounds. We
request that you stay on the designated paths. Enjoy

You may also join one of our guided tours. Approximately once a week, a monastic conducts two one-hour
walking excursions through more of the grounds, starting sharp at 9am and 11am from the entrance gazebo.
He will provide an introduction to Hinduism and share
with you more about our monasterys founder, his
teachings and some of our areas of service. The tour will

Kauais Hindu Monastery

auais Hindu Monastery was founded in 1970


by Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami (inset),
affectionately known as Gurudeva. He created this
sacred place for meditation, worship, training of his
monks and as a religious resource for the Hindu world.
Before his passing in November,
2001, he chose as his successor
Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami,
who is now the spiritual leader of the
monastery and its ancient lineage.

now under construction. Tours are free, but the monastery welcomes all love offerings, as donations from
visitors allow us to continue building Iraivan Temple
and beautify the grounds. Parking is very limited,
therefore reservations are required. Please call toll free
1-888-735-1619 to find out upcoming tour dates and
reserve a parking space. Reservations are not required if
you arrive by taxi and the taxi does not stay. Aloha!

How to Use This Map. This self-guided tour starts at the Pua Kenikeni Mandapam (entrance gazebo). Please see bottom left
of this map. Follow the numbers and it will take you through the various points of interest. You may keep this map as a souvenir.

7. Pali Lookout. Here you will


see the Wailua River flowing along
our property with its Nani Kaua
pond and waterfall. From here you
can view (try the binoculars) Iraivan
Temple in the distance and Mount
Waialeale in the background. Your
next stop is Kadavul Temple, back
the way you came.

6. Temple Tank. This sacred pool has a statue of the


child saint, Saint Sambandar
dancing and the mantra
Om painted on the bottom
in the Tamil language.

5. Banyan Mandapam. This


gallery shares with you our lineage
of gurus, some basics of Hinduism
and our hand-carved Iraivan Temple.
When youve explored the gallery,
head back out to the path and proceed to the temple tank.

1. Pua Kenikeni Mandapam.


There is an urn in the six-sided
pavilion where, if inspired, you can
write down and burn your problems. Wrap-arounds (sarongs) are
available if you need one to meet
our dress code.
