Hi and welcome to the ninth edition of the Fantasy Freakos rave for 2012. Were only one round away from the first of three consecutive multi-team round bye rounds, and
Im sure plenty of coaches are getting nervous at the prospect of playing short. Ill address how to tackle the tricky bye rounds this week, as well as give you the regular inside
information from the fantasy world for the round.

FIRST TERM SPECIALISTS
HOW TO TACKLE THE BYE ROUNDS
There is nothing more satisfying for a coach than seeing one of your players get off
to a flyer in the opening term. Last year Scott Pendlebury was the man that led the
competition for scoring in the first quarter, and this year that mantle has gone to his
team mate, and its not Dane Swan. Steele Sidebottom has been the most prolific
scorer in first quarters in 2012, scoring 16 more DT points than the next best player.
Hes scored at least 20 points in all but one game, while topping the 40 mark on four
occasions, with his 46 against Essendon in Round 5 his best return. Sidebottom is
having a superb season, elevating himself into one of the elite fantasy players in the
competition, ranking seventh for total points scored.
Lets not kid ourselves. Even with the ability to make up to three trades between
Rounds 11-13 burning nine in that time just to avoid donuts is ridiculous. If youve
managed your team strategically, then you would have minimised the potential damage
to a bare minimum. First and foremost, with the Giants having a bye in Round 11,
hopefully youve traded most of them out already, as some coaches started with as
many as eight in their initial squad. If you havent done so, look at moving a few of
them on this week, with Tomas Bugg and Adam Kennedy prime candidates to go as
both have hit the wall from a scoring perspective. With most coaches having a Brian
Lake/Ryan Hargrave in defence, add a Beau Waters, Pearce Hanley and a Tom Bugg or
a Sam Darley, and you have yourself a recipe for disaster for Round 11.
Trent Cotchin is another player that has taken his game to another level this season,
ranking second behind Sidebottom for points scored in the first term. Hes been
extremely consistent, scoring at least 27 points in all but one game, with his 40 in
the season opener against Carlton his best match. Kurt Tippett, Matthew Boyd and
Josh Kennedy round out the top-five.
Round 12 also looks tricky, with Dane Swan, Scott Pendlebury, Jobe Watson, Brent
Stanton, Joel Selwood and Josh Kennedy all missing. If you have at least three of
these blokes, then youll be forced to play one short, even if you have bench cover for
two of them.
Scott Pendlebury hasnt fared as well in first quarters compared to last season,
ranking 23rd with an average of 27 points, down from last years return of 32.
Below are the leading performers in the opening term this season.
Our forward line will be decimated come Round 13, with Lance Franklin, Jordan Lewis,
Mitch Robinson, Dustin Martin and Nick Riewoldt all sitting it out. Bench cover may
also be stretched, with Darren Pfeiffer, Terry Milera, Ahmed Saad and Aaron Hall (gone
missing) all out as well.

even though hes the only recognised ruckman on the list. He has cracked
the ton only once and has averaged seven fewer DT points per game
compared to last year. Look elsewhere for a ruckman upgrade at this

Both Tom Rockliff and Jack Redden have suffered considerable drops
in price this year. The latter has been more consistent of the two, falling
below 80 DT points only twice compared to Rockliffs four times, with both
hitting 100 plus on four occasions. If you are planning an upgrade after
the Round 11 bye, I would still go for Rocky.
