Assistant to the Editor, Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering (JMSE)


Assist a Columbia University professor in his role as editor of JMSE. Collaborate with him and with
authors from about 165 countries, international peer reviewers, 20 associate editors, production
personnel, and guest editors to ensure that submissions meet JMSE standards, to supervise and
streamline the editorial process, and to encourage more submissions.
- Review, track, and approve/disapprove 400-500 submissions annually.
- Research, analyze, present, and implement initiatives to improve the Journals impact factor.
- Draft all editorials, tributes, annual reports, and newsletter updates.
The average time that submissions spend in the journals system has been
reduced by approximately 100% since 2012, with no loss in quality.
Editors emeriti have called their tributes perfect and associate editors term
communications potent.
In 2015, JMSE will publish monthly, rather than bi-monthly, to accommodate the
significantly increased submissions experienced in 2014.

New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)

Worked with teens at NYCHA public housing sites (in Harlem and the Lower East Side) to facilitate
meaningful writing that helped to give them voice and increase their desire for self-expression.

Collaborated on writing and editing a two-part teacher handbook for a cutting-edge high-school science
curriculum (funded by NIH). Part 1: How to ask good questions for research; Part 2: translational research.
- Researched online resources, developed course descriptions and class exercises, reorganized
curriculum, and supplied original content.

Samana Foundation, Dominican Republic

Colla Collaborate with the foundations co-founders to develop the vision, mission, and voice of their
innovative, green, study-abroad program in Samana, Dominican Republic, which is affiliated with US
AID, historically black colleges, a university in Haiti, and Ivy-league universities.
- Develop and write website content, proposals, news releases, and letters to government
officials (e.g., Haitis president) and to existing and potential partners, as well as branding,
promotional, and informational materials.
Productive new partnerships and investments have resulted from inspiring
messaging.

City University of New York (CUNY)

Editorial Quality Assurance Specialist (Manager)


The NYC Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) contracted CUNYs School of Professional
Studies to devise and deliver technical job training to OCSEs 800+ employees.

Developed and supervised production of house style guide, based primarily on Chicago, and
incorporated agency-specific terminology.
Reviewed, edited, and approved all (45-600-page) procedures and training manuals written
by 22-member CUNY team before submission to the client; prioritized overlapping
assignments and synchronized with team members to maintain quality and efficiency.
Edited the agenda and all speaker biographies for OCSEs annual conference.
Ensured the CUNY teams unfailing adherence to tight deadlines by creatively
managing work on deliverables and providing leadership that facilitated
harmonious, efficient collaboration.

Collaborated with OCSE senior managers and produced their annual report, casting the agency in a
