KANATA TOWN CENTRE & KANATA AVE PUBLIC MEETING

TONIGHT, May 29, 7 9 pm, Mlacak Centre

An Environmental Assessment for designing Kanata Ave between Lord Byng and Earl
Grey as a 4 lane complete street preferred option will be presented at this meeting. It
includes 4 traffic lanes, parking on both sides, a raised cycling lane, sidewalks and
areas for landscaping and patios. Please send me an email if you would like a copy
once they are available.
For the City owned lands east of Kanata Ave, there will be a final design plan that will
extend the open space from the existing Town Centre Park along the rock ridge with
development only along existing streets. The zoning approved for lands further east,
including a 6 metre setback along Campeau and 3 storey height limit for the first 25
metres on Campeau, are to be retained.

RURAL EXPO AND FOOD AID DAY IS JUNE 6 at CITY HALL

Did you know that most of Ottawa is rural? Did you know that there are 26 rural villages
within the City of Ottawa? Did you know that the agricultural industry dairy, poultry,
beef, cash crops and more is a major part of our economy? Have you visited one of
the fall fairs or watched farmers and politicians (myself included) plough a furrow at a
ploughing meet? And theres no better place to get fresh produce than at our local
farmers markets.
The second annual Mayors Rural Expo, held in conjunction with the 10th annual Food
Aid Day on Friday, June 6 at City Hall, is an opportunity to learn more about our rural
neighbours and sample what rural Ottawa has to offer. Start with a pancake breakfast
from 7 9 am (Ill be there to serve you). From 8 am to 2 pm you can enjoy a variety of
booths, musical entertainment and even a cow milking contest! A barbecue lunch is
served from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Food Aid Day raises funds for the Ottawa Food
Bank.
Drop by on Friday, June 6 and visit some of the great attractions and businesses from
rural Ottawa.

SPLASH PADS OPEN

There are 4 splash pads in Kanata North to enjoy on a hot day with water available from
9 am to 9 pm. They are at Billy Bishop Park in Village Green, Walden Park in Kanata
Lakes, Brookshire Park in Brookside and our new Richcraft Recreation Complex
Kanata. Splash pads are not supervised, so keep an eye on your children.
The Beaverbrook Outdoor Pool will open in late June. For information on lessons there,
check the Citys recreation guide.

Give Away weekend is your opportunity to pass those unwanted items on to someone
who can use them. All you need to do is put them at the end or your driveway with a
sign saying FREE and then anyone can pick up your treasure and keep it in use.
